On the Northcoast, we have an overcast and light breeze right now. Last night and in the morning hours we had some rain. Flooding is expected on the south parts of the island, and more rain will come today and tonight. All is good here so far.

Grace learned the same dance as Fred and has passed well south of us. I have to say, at least for Punta Cana, forecast models beyond 12 hours have been notoriously inaccurate for the past 5-6 years. If forecast models were MLB pitchers, all they would throw is balls...and no strikes.

Unlike Fred, Grace is giving us some much-needed rain here in the east of the island nation. Winds remain calm and the odd rumble of thunder can be heard.

Here is the latest update from COE.
As it’s a long weekend here many are traveling. today’s plea from COE for the
public was that everyone should be going to their homes tomorrow 4pm, so
they’ll be in their homes on Monday. To avoid traffic on Monday when the Grace
impacts DR.
To be continued…

- Grace and Haiti

The projections show Grace scooting along the north coast of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.  Poor Haiti has just had a 7.2 earthquake which we felt here, so we hope that Grace will veer north and give them some breathing space but it doesn't look like that will happen.

Storm Fred has cruised along the south coast and hopefully not caused too many problems there.  All the projections showing interaction with the north coast have been in vain, and we have had a little rain only - not what we needed in this drought we have been suffering from, but it is early in the season so we might get more rain later in the year.

I agree with Teresia, overcast all day with a short spell of heavy rain lasting about 20 minutes with a little thunder.  Now the overcast is lightening and there is a refreshing breeze.  We might get more later but right now getting the bbq back out!!

- So far...just a cloudy day
  • By Mike Bryant <puntacanamike at gmail.com>

I am located 2 miles inland from Punta Cana International and have been awake since 5am. Not much to Fred at this point. A small period of very light rain, no winds worth being concerned about, and very comfortable cool, low humidity temperatures.

Fred is yet another pretender for our part of the world. The radar is showing nothing in the way of rainfall off the eastern shores, and unless Fred does a quick right turn, rainfall will not be an issue in the least, and certainly not winds.

A quick look at Flight Radar24 and no flight cancellations or major delays.

All in all, just a cloudy day in paradise.

Here in eastern Dominican Republic we woke up to some strong gusts of wind and a steady rain but nothing severe. It looks like Fred is on the point of hitting land here so this is just the beginning.

- Heavy rain from the central area to the north coast.

We are experiencing very heavy rain at about the rate of 1.5 inches an hour, accompanied by a lot of  thunder and lightning.  The power is still on apart from a few flicks.  This rain is so very welcome as we have been parched and the land has suffered.

Reuben Spitz - I'm sorry if you felt the the coverage of Elsa on the north coast was lacking, but really there was nothing to report.  A storm in a teacup as we say.  Hope all is well in Haiti.

Very calm and dry overnight with just a little light rain at 6am.  Then we had a period of bright sunshine.  Suddenly it has clouded over with thundery rain and a few squally showers.

We took down anything that could fly away before bed but got no weather overnight. No rain and no wind. It started raining around 6:30 am this morning in Punta Cana.  There have been some gusts of wind but nothing unusual.  It looks like Elsa is already west of us so hopefully rain is the most we get.

Last year I reported from Santo Domingo but have since moved to Punta Cana so I'll be reporting from there this year. We're currently under a tropical storm warning along the entire southern coast of Dominican Republic but it looks like Elsa will pass well south of us.  Last night we had some thunderstorms which I think were associated with the tropical wave that passed yesterday.

It's pretty windy today and periodically overcast. Based off the wind we're having this morning, I think I'll take down and bring in anything light enough to blow away tonight as I'm anticipating some decent wind gusts overnight.
