It’s still windy in Bequia, but the gusts are down the 76, and the rain has been minimal, at least on our part of the island. Barely wet the bottom of the rain gauge. Internet was out for a while and the electricity was off for a bit earlier in the day. Hopefully it won’t go out again before bed. I think I’ll get the candles out just in case. |

Lots of gusty wind in Bequia and some rain. Gusts to 96K. The sea to the east is wild, and our normally quiet Spring Bay has waves coming in. Even our swimming pool has a chop to it. |

Dear StormCarib bloggers,
It is with great sadness that I inform the Stormcarib family of the passing of a longtime correspondent from St Vincent and the Grenadines. Mr Haniff Sutherland whose contributions to this site dates back to the early 2000s passed away on September 6th 2019 after a year long battle with Cancer.
Haniff was not only a good friend of mine but of many , he was also a weather enthusiast like myself and used this website to update on the current weather in SVG on Many occasions including the passage of Hurricane Ivan back in 2004 ( see archives on this site for his updates).
He had the most fitting send off yesterday in a funeral service punctuated by moving tributes and what he loved - music .Interestingly enough, most of the previous days were extremely hot but yesterday was the coolest day of the week up until his burial. Last night the heavens opened up and it began to rain... and it rained . Today its still raining , we have recorded just over 2 inches of rain so far for the day ( unofficial - according to my personal weather station).

So while we skated by in Bequia and St Vincent with nothing worth mentioning from Dorian, others are now facing danger. Hoping and praying that all will be safe in the Bahamas and wherever else Dorian heads next. |

Wet and rainy in Bequia. As I write Spring Bay below us is flat and running out instead of in. There are a few ripples out to the entrance to the bay and some foaming and splashing along the rocky shoreline across the bay, but outside the bay looking out to Battowia and Balliceaux islands, it looks flat. I’m not sure what the sea is doing on the Caribbean side of the island, but the ferries aren’t running and pretty much everything is shut down. We’ve heard a few booms from the sea so the sea is surging somewhere not too far away. Very little breeze to speak of, though there were a few gusts earlier where we ran to close some windows. We need the rain, so this is good for us. |

It has been a very hot sunny day in Kingstown, St Vincent. The government announced earlier in the day that their offices, and private sector should be closed by 4:00pm. FLOW announced that they were closing at 3:00pm. Supermarkets and essential services were to be open until 6:00pm.
We've just received an update that our airport, the AIA is officially closed and will reopen tomorrow at 6:00am (1000UTC)
We have just had a very light shower, skies are now beginning to get gray and the trees are swaying in the breeze.
On one radio station, listeners are reminded of the hurricane shelters, their opening times and are being advised to seek shelter if your home is questionable.

The Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines addressed the Nation on the approach of Tropical Storm Dorian at 12:00 p.m. today and made the following declaration: 1. All businesses and non-essential services for St. Vincent
and the Grenadines will be closed from 4:00 p.m. today.
Gas stations and supermarkets to open a little later (6:00
p.m.). 2. All Shelter Managers are asked to activate their shelter
management teams and have the shelters opened by
7:00 p.m. today to receive persons who need shelter. 3. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) will
be activated at 6:00 p.m. today. This means that the
NEMO Office will not close but will have a 24 hour
operation. 4. All heads of Sub-Committees are asked to ensure at
least one member of their sub-committee is present at
the NEOC at all times. |

As Dorian approaches, most people I’ve spoken with are taking it seriously and getting ready for whatever Dorian might throw at us and watching the updates. Admiralty Bay is pretty much empty though there are still a couple of sailboats moored off of Princess Margaret Beach which is not a good place to be, but hopefully someone will tell them before the seas start to surge. It’s still quiet here, it was very still earlier but the breeze is picking up now. We are as ready as we can be and hopefully everybody else is too. |
