To all Storm Carib followers it is with a sad heart that I have to report that late in December 2019 we lost a free spirit, whom you’ve all read her blogging on Storm Carib over the years, Dear Miss Mermaid. It is truly a sad moment to think that she is gone.  She had a colorful life, sailing, living aboard her sailboat SV SeaRose in the Caribbean until a hurricane took her vessel.  After that she picked up the pieces,  Dear Miss Mermaid became a land lubber and started blogging for Storm Carib at it’s conception, writing tall tales, observations of island life, her experiences both living onboard plus on the dirt, and reporting on the weather,  especially stormy weather. She advised us, recommended her own way to celebrate a hurricane with a hurricane party so that fear would not overcome all of those who attended and were taking shelter from the storm.  She lived an adventuresome life in the BVI, passing on much of her knowledge to those who read her writing. Eventually Dear Miss Mermaid left the island that she had called home for so many years traveling back north to the states. Her wanderlust continued upon her purchasing a Rv. She traveled to many south east campgrounds, becoming a park host through many seasons and then settled in Florida with her little rescued dog Harley. They would spend the rest of time together until Dear Miss Mermaid left us for her next heavenly wanderlust adventure. We thank Dear Miss Mermaid for all of her blogging, her wit, the books she wrote, her friendship and the life experiences she shared with us.

 She will forever be missed.

Cheers Dear Miss Mermaid from all your readers and myself the Mermaid Gardener

Good morning

Figured these days many people like to hear about restaurant updates so here’s one from Pussers Roadtown. Walked in hoping to catch a quick bite, the restaurant at lunch had a laid back feel for the paitrons and since there wasn’t a cruise ship in, there were tables readily available. The menu continues to be fun and great tasting, two of the appetizers we tried were the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Potato chip tree. Both great as ever and the service was good! Fun to see all the antiques hanging from the ceiling and the bar that makes you feel like you’re at Cheer’s.

Now that Regatta has come and gone, Island life is getting back to being normal, though I don’t think Roadtown necessary was super busy, most of the action was held down at Nanny Cay. This week winds are now up after the light winds and on Saturday nonexistent winds. So freshening of the tradewinds will make it nice sailing and will keep the mosquitoes and no see um’s away!

Weather update:
Wind speed 15-18 knots
3’ seas
79 degrees

Another beautiful day here in Tortola!
Cheer!

- 2019 Bvi Spring Regatta

Good evening one and all!

This years Bvi Spring Regatta has been going strong, though on Saturday the rumor was that they cancelled racing that day due to lack of wind! The Regatta village which is located separately from Peg Legs area this year is hopping! The village has a fun vibe with people from all over, heard French being spoken, along with other nations! Many vendors were there, Absolute was mixing Absolute Lime vodka with Pink Ting, with the drink they gave out green flashing flower headpieces that flashed brillian lime green,  truly the drink was refreshing.

Sailors were dancing, eating and drinking, plus they had a wench contest. Now, now, not the kind of wench you all might be thinking of, no, it was a large weighted sail bag rigged to a pulley system and the sailors who wanted to try their had at it wenched up the weighted sailbag and were timed. Of course the wench was not the selftailing kind so volunteers were enlisted to tail. Plenty of slightly non buff sailors attempted to haul the sailbag up, many turned red in the face and a couple were winded, but they recovered quickly then their crew members came with liquid refreshment! Everyone had a great time rooting them on.

Weather report for tonight: wear bug spray to bed, or mix 50/50 skin so soft and water and use that as insect repellent. Make sure if you a good battery charge or are on shore power, use your fans. It’s going to be a warm night! Buzzzzz

Cheer!
