- rain, rain, and more rain

Considering the satellite doesn’t show much of anything over Bequia, it’s very wet here…seems like this past week has been little sunshine, frequent showers, drizzle and downpours…some wind…it was gusty last night and we have some branches down and lost our electricity (just after Danny shot the assassin in last nights episode of Blue Bloods…guess we’re going to have to wait for reruns to find out what happened)…just had another deluge come through…we seem to spend our time running around the house opening and closing doors and windows as needed to keep the rain out, and then to let the breeze in between downpours…I’ve given up on having my patio cushions out for now…the water tanks are full and the gardens are lush so that’s great…got our electricity back this morning around 8, so it wasn’t too much of a hardship, though it was pitch black when the electricity went off and we had to grope our way around to find flashlights…

- lots of rain in Bequia
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2012 08:48:44 -0400

Other than some light drizzles earlier the rains started about mid day yesterday, and rained pretty much the rest of the day and into the night…when we went to bed it was still raining…woke up to lots of gusty wind and brighter though still overcast skies…according to our rain gauge we received just under 3 inches of rain...just a few rocks down in the road above us that must have slipped from the rain, and bits of branches broken off in the wind so far…the winds are quite gusty so who knows what might come yet…

- thunder and lightning oh my...
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2012 10:43:44 -0400

Saturday night and Sunday morning we were rocking and rolling all night long with lots of thunder and lightning…I finally drifted off to sleep counting the time off between thunder and lightning trying to figure out how far the storm was away and whether we’d get any much needed rain from it…we did...through the night and pretty much all day Sunday…today started off looking ugly too, but the sun is currently shining, though off to the east it looks like there might be more cloud cover and rain heading our way…looking at the satellite pics it seems that we might be in the middle of the wave, so there might be another day of rain to come…

We’re so grateful for the rain as it was getting really dry here…I have a primitive rain gauge which I’m sure is not accurate, but it looks like we got about 1 ¼ inches, maybe a little more…not a huge amount, but every little bit helps…

Another benefit of a full day of no sunshine and rain was the temperature dropped giving us a respite from the intense heat that everybody has been complaining about...now that the sun is shining it’s up to 83F which is still  a  little cooler than normal…

It’s quite gusty in Bequia this morning…clouds are rapidly moving to the north…if you look at them too long you get vertigo they are moving that quickly…then again maybe that’s just me, since I can get sea sick in a hammock…

The wind gusts feel great and are blowing the mosquitos away…the sun is currently shining through the gaps in the clouds…a few rumbles of thunder and the cloud coming up from the south is gloomy grey and thick so it looks like we’ve got some more rain coming shortly…

- raining heavily now in Bequia
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2012 13:57:08 -0400

While eating lunch the breeze picked up, and by the time we were finished it started to rain quite heavily…had to close the windows on the west side of the house, and the door on the north…opposite to normal…sea is still quite flat…

- gentle showers so far
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2012 08:14:37 -0400

8 am in Bequia…it’s been showering gently for a few hours now…temperature is much cooler than normal right now, about 76F…my two thermometers disagree and I don’t know which one is correct so I split the difference…there is just a whisper of a breeze stirring the air…the sea looks pretty flat, but there is a little surge going on across Spring Bay…looks like we are in for a long damp day with possible thunderstorms…very likely wet tomorrow too…

Looking at the satellite photos and forecasts, it looks like the eye of the storm, which is massive, is going to go over Guadeloupe sometime tonight, so they’ll be getting torrents of rain…hope everyone to the north is battening down the hatches…it sure looks like Isaac is going to become a hurricane…

- squally night & a little rain
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2012 08:09:01 -0400

I’m not sure what time the wind started to blow and the rain to pound in the night, but it seemed like it rained off and on all night, sometimes the noise on the roof was battering and other times a light shower…I was surprised to see this morning that we only got a little over ¾ of an inch of rain, and a scattering of twigs down along the road and in the gardens…it’s brightening to the east now and it looks like the sun will shine and dry everything up again…the Atlantic looks just a little rougher than normal and it’s a little noisier than usual…

So sorry to hear about all the damage in Trinidad & Tobago…sounds like they might have taken the brunt of the system…

- tropical wave that was TD7
  • From: "Liz & Greg Thomas" <cabana at vincysurf.com>
  • Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2012 12:56:28 -0400

It’s clouding over in Bequia and we can hear thunder off in the distance…presumably we’ll be getting some rain soon…meanwhile there is a nice breeze but it’s very hot and humid…

SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN FOR ST.VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES .

12:30 pm on Wednesday, 1st Aug, 2012.

The   St. Vincent  and  the  Grenadines  Meteorological  Office  is  monitoring  an  area  of  low  pressure   over  the  mid- Atlantic, which has become better organized over the past 24 hours, it is   centered  near  11°N 47°W .

. Analysis over the past twelve hours and in consultation with Barbados Meteorological Services and the National Hurricane Centre , suggests that the system is close to tropical depression stage. At present, it is centered near 11°N 47°W or about 1000 miles or 1600 km to the east- south east of   St. Vincent, moving towards  the west at 17– 23mph …27 to37 kmh. This represents an increase in forward speed and hence the system is now
expected to be in the vicinity of St. Vincent by early Friday morning.

Conditions remain favourable for further strengthening and there is a very strong
possibility that this system could  become  a Tropical Storm by the time it approaches
the  southern  Lesser Antilles.
Reconnaissance aircraft will investigate the system tomorrow.
This department will continue to monitor the development of this system and will be
issuing further statements on its progress.
.
Residents should take the necessary precaution as this system approaches the island.

The  St. Vincent  and  the   Grenadines  Meteorological  Office  will  continue  to  monitor  the  development  of  this  system  and  will  be
issuing  further  statements  on  its  progress  over  the  next  few  days.

NEWS RELEASE

Subject: Tropical System Approaches St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Please find attached an early forecast on a tropical system labeled Invest 99L that is predicted to be the next named Atlantic Storm, Ernesto, and which could affect SVG by Friday August 3, 2012.

The general forecast is that this system could develop into the next named storm and could begin affecting SVG by Friday.

With Wednesdays August 1, 2012 being a public holiday it will be a bit difficult to disseminate information and also to reach all concerned. We therefore urge that you closely monitor this system and be ready to fast track preparations by Thursday morning in anticipation of this system impacting the country.

The MET Office and NEMO will continue to monitor the progress of this system and will provide information on the system as it comes to hand.

Please note that most models put the track of this system as moving generally in our direction.

Once again, everyone is urged to monitor the passage of this system and to be ready to respond if the system increases intensity thereby posing a threat to all interests in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

- So the rain continues....
  • By "Colvin \"Koolkidd\" Harry" <colvinharry at yahoo.co.uk>

What can i say but RAIN ...RAIN and well more RAIN, it has been overcast, rainy breezy and thunderstormy all day today here in SVG, what appears to be a tropical wave made its presence felt accross the island chain today this resulted in almost 47mm(1.8 Inches) of rainfall at the ET Joshua Airport and what i have been told its much more than that in the  country side.

There were reports of minor flooding in kingstown and a few landslides but that is about the most that happens, some events were postponed or cancelled and one school sent home their children after lunch due to the inclemency of the weather. It seems that the rain will continue at least through tonight, i do hope that its a much better day tomorrow weatherwise to allow for the friday rush to be somewhat comfortable.

Will update you on any further developments, until then adios amigos and be prepared for the 2012 Hurricane season its coming!

It was cloudy this morning but by afternoon it got even worst, now its all grey as night falls and in the distance you can see reflections of lightning and showers on the sea about to sweep in, it was a warm day with a few showers and the odd sprinkle in between.Overcast conditions ruled the afternoon with little or no breeze...very still.

Look forward to some bette weather tomorrow (i hope)

Until next time thats i am out!
