Last night we received our first rain for the month of March. 5 mm - not much but we'll take it - Thank you. More supposed to be on the way tonight and into tomorrow. Everywhere is SO DRY - lots of bush fires and the smell of smoke hangs permanently in the air.

Christmas Greetings from Barbados - May everyone have a safe, happy and wonderful Yuletide Season.

Last evening - Christmas Eve - IT RAINED and RAINED - what a night - we were supposed to continue the rains today - but so far it has been slightly overcast, sun coming and going, still warm and breezy, but no rains yet. Lets hope it stays away for the entire day so everyone can enjoy their Christmas activities whether indoors or out.

Looking at the postings I see no one from Barbados has written in a while so I thought I would. The weather is just great, sunny hot days with a few showers and now at night the trade winds are coming through. Here on the South Coast I don't seem to have any problem with mosquitoes yet. Which is wonderful for sleeping. The snowbirds and tourists are filtering back. It is so great to see those familiar faces year after year returning to our island. The rounderbouts are decorated for Independence/Christmas already. To all fellow Barbadians - Have a wonderful, safe and happy Independence Day Holiday weekend.

The wind seems to be coming from all directions - it has been raining really heavily non-stop with 50 kmh gusting winds since around 10.30am this morning. It is now past 12 noon. Looking at the radar there is still a lot more weather to come.

We have a strong tropical wave affecting our island at this present time. The winds have picked up considerably and are gusting quite fierce. The skies are gun metal grey and the the rain comes in squalls or heavy downpours sideways. Late start for many for work and school and I can imagine the highways/roadsways will be "no fun" for driving on today.

This morning i was awoken at 4 am with very heavy showers which lasted about 45 mins bucket a drop, there were probably some good gust in the squalls.Went out for a drive to check on my boat and have not seen dead branches etc on the streets so it's not really that bad except for the early pre dawn showers, wind speed is around 20 knots out of the SSE heavily overcast but the rain is light,at least that's the south coast where i live, looking at the Barbados radar theres still some moisture to come hope the other islanders are going to fare as well as us.Best Regards Peter

Not sure what might be in store for us later in the morning but it's 1:17 a.m. and the wind has a slight "howl" and is sounding quite high. The doors are vibrating slightly, the curtains are moving and I thought I heard a plant pot fall. Not hearing a lot of rain yet though.

On September 22, Barbadians were given a little reminder of what could
happen with some all night lightning flashes (accompanied by no rain
most of the time), short, sharp rainfalls and high winds. This weather
pattern is continuing into the morning, with even longer rainfall and
stronger winds. The lightning display also continues to be spectacular
. I just had to adjust the window as the wind and rain were coming
through the bedroom with full force.
Something tells me that this weather activity will stick around for a while.

Keeping eyes on a developing weather system to our east.

SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY HAS INCREASED A LITTLE IN ASSOCIATION WITH A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ALONG A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 700 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE CONDUCIVE FOR GRADUAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE...50 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT ABOUT 15 MPH.

Good morning,

At about 4am I went to bed with the rain "playing the drums" on our roof. Right now it has stopped. The agro fields below us can't absorbe the water any more. It starts building up little ponds on the fields. Obviously, the ground has had enough soaking. If more rain is going to fall down as the MET is predicting the water has to find other ways to go. Downwards is apparently not an option at this time. This is calling for more flooding.

It's been raining since yesterday evening. Flooding had been reported in
various parishes yesterday. Haven't heard what's happen overnight but the Met
office has warned of more rain today.

Neighbors to our west should look out for rain headed their way.

Outside is very grey, windy and raining. The winds are out of the South at 35 kmh. Overnight we had 69.5 m of rain fall at the airport - I would suspect lots more than that on other parts of the island. Todays forecast is the same as right now - grey, windy, raining with pockets of heavy showers into tonight. All in all a very nasty day to be out there. My volunteer day for the animal shelter so I shall be on the road very soon. I hope I do not encounter too much road flooding in the low lying districts. Stay safe and dry everyone.

Don't know why the sky sometimes looks purple during intense weather.
I think it has something to do with not absorbing light or something
like that. Anyway, as I look from my bedroom window, it continues to
rain steadily and some tree top branches are moving in the wind.

A high wind just blew the lamp straight off the table! Must say, wasn't looking for that to happen but it seems as though the winds will be high for quite a while as they are not letting up easily. It's been dark and cloudy since midday and the  rain also continues to fall steadily but more like gentle, light showers.

Good afternoon,

at about 2pm I had to stop cutting the grass, due to rainfall starting. Since then it is raining continuously and the wind blew the rain into my terrace coming straight from South! According to the spin of ISAAC it must have been North West of Barbados at that time. Planes are taking off to the West, that only happens when winds are down at all or coming from westerly directions.

The garden gets a good soaking, though. Winds are little above average, with gusts every now and then. Above the centre of Barbados I saw heavy dark clouds. Must be where "Mark M" (see below) lives.

Instead of passing 6 miles South of Barbados the centre was passing North of Barbados and about 2 hours earlier than forecasted. Until the centre had passed everything was quiet down here (until about 4 am). Now we are experiencing the "tail" of Ernesto with strong and gusty winds - not really dramatic. Rain is with the winds but less than I would have expected. We just have to wait for the end.

It's just two hours away before Barbados will probably start to feel the effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
Today had been sunny and warm with some light breezes in between and it has been very quiet for the most part, probably with the exception of busy traffic and last minute shoppers in Bridgetown today.
The rain has just started to trickle...

that Ernesto is tracking further south than originally estimated. They are now
saying that Ernesto will pass " very close or directly over Barbados."

Traffic is now very busy and supermarkets are now reporting an increase in

Some events for tonight has now been canceled and the hurricane adverts are

This morning in Barbados hazy sunshine with very little wind. If we didn't know what was coming it would be a delightful day for the beach. My preparations almost complete - just have to move some outdoor furniture and umberella's, this afternoon, so they do not become flying projectiles in the gusty winds. Off to the animal shelter for dogs to see what we can do to secure our canine friends for their safety, through tonight and tomorrow. Please remember to help keep your own animals safe during the storm. The thunder and lightening and gusty howling winds will upset them, also make sure at this time if they are outdoor dogs they have adequate safe shelter and some kind of id on them if they should make a run off your property. People have no idea after a storm like this just how many calls we get for lost dogs, with no identification. Be safe everyone, will touch base again later this afternoon.

Local Met officials and Crop Over festival officials are monitoring a weather
system east of Barbados.

The Met office issued this statement this morning.

HERE IS A SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN issued by The Barbados Meteorological
Services at 10:30 am on Tuesday, 31st July, 2012.

The Barbados Meteorological Services is monitoring an area of low pressure
over the mid- Atlantic, centered near 9N 39.6W or about 1400 miles or

could become a Tropical Storm by the time it approaches Barbados and the
southern Lesser Antilles late Friday / early Saturday.
This department will continue to monitor the development of this system and
will be issuing further statements on its progress over the next few days.

That oh so familiar humidity that we get around this time of year is upon us again and boy is not letting up! Between Saturday and today, the humid atmosphere was incredible! I feel like something is on its way. Either that or our neighbouring islands are getting some heavy showers. From what I've read it could be both. There were some light showers in between and I almost felt like they were sending a message. Maybe they are saying: "This is teaser for what you are really about to get." *me goes in the kitchen and start filling up containers with water*

The sun was out this afternoon, but this time yesterday was quite a soaker here in St Thomas and my basement is flooded. While driving down from St Joseph there were several pockets of flooding where the water was flowing from field to field. I think the water was just trying to find a way to the sea.

In the meantime, my basement was mistaken for a gully.

Note to self: get another pump! And it isn’t even the official start of the hurricane season...

Dry hazy conditions here in Bardados for the past few days have finally been broken in on by some welcome rain showers.

A tropical wave interacting with the ITCZ is causing widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms across most of the island. There has been a couple reports of some flash flooding as well.

Cloud build up on satellite and local radar remains quite significant and all indications are that there is still a high chance of more moderate to heavy showers over the next 4 to 6 hours.

It’s a timely reminder that we are just days away from the official start of Hurricane Season 2012!!

Bajans woke up to light to moderate showers this morning and the showers got heavier during the day. By lunch time, we could see sheets of white rain outside the window. Several areas on the outskirts of Bridgetown are full of water. In some cases, water is settling around trees forming huge pools. It seems to getting quieter now, as I can just hear  just a gentle patter of rain on the roof. I have a feeling these overcast conditions will continue throught the late evening. Won't stop my gym workout though. It will be business as usual :)
