Good day everyone,

Today has remained cloudy and misty. The sun did manage to break through a couple of times and it has threatened to rain off and on during the day. The breeze seems to have picked up from the east but it has remained warm. All in all not a good week if you have been a sun seeking tourist.

Have a good weekend,

- Hot and Humid but Dry.
  • By "nevisislander at yahoo.co.uk" <nevisislander at yahoo.co.uk>
  • Date: Fri, 4 May 2012 21:45:27 -0400
After yesterday night’s wet weather, today began dry with hazy sunshine which dried things out. As the day progressed it became more cloudy but it hasn’t rained and with very little breeze it has become very humid and muggy. Tonight has stayed dry so far, with a full moon showing through breaks in the cloud and there have been lightning flashes to the south-east.

The sky has been overcast with threatening grey clouds all day. Well it started raining a 4pm today with some thunder and lightning with low cloud shrouding us here in the foothills of Nevis Peak. The electricity went off for about 30 minutes at around 6:15 pm and it looks as if we are in for a damp night.

Good day everyone,

Weather today has been cloudy with some sunny spells. Just had a short sharp shower lasting about 5 minutes at 1.35 pm. It is still quiet breezy with some stronger gusts of wind and the wind seems to be coming in from an ENE direction.

Added a photo from yesterday of the local Vervet Monkey troop having a family get together in my yard.

- A Pleasant Day
  • By nevisislander at yahoo.co.uk
  • Date: Tue, 27 Dec 2011 12:06:04 -0400
Good Day Everyone,

Weather-wise Christmas has been been good. This morning has been cloudy but as we move into the afternoon the cloud has broken and the sun has been shining through. The wind has been breezy with the occasional stronger gusts so that has been keeping things cool. We had a few showers in the early hours of this morning up in the foothills of Nevis Peak but that is not so bad as it is at night.

I hope everyone has had a good time over Christmas.

Please find attached a couple of late evening photos taken yesterday (Boxing Day).

  • Date: Sat, 24 Dec 2011 17:37:15 -0400
Good day everyone,

It seems that we are in a pattern of strong breeze and sunny intervals during the day and showers at night. The breeze is cooling things down during the day and does give a bit of a chill if you are in the shade. Just had our first shower of the day (5:25 pm) so we have had a tropical downpour for about three minutes. Being up in the foothills of Nevis Peak and with the strong breeze of recent times I haven’t been bothered by any mosquitoes which is a result.

Frank Goodwill

  • Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2011 13:40:17 -0400
Good Afternoon Everyone,

Well today started off fine with broken cloud and some sunshine. Things have brightened up a lot and after all the rain we have been having I thought I would catch up and do some washing. Nothing like drying clothes and bedding in the Caribbean sun with a little breeze. Finished, sat down to have a cup of tea (PG Tips) and reflect on my labour and ......... is that the watery stuff falling again from the sky. Yes, a shower...... Nothing like doing some washing to make it rain! With the NE winds the Nevis Peak microclimate it is probably dry on the Windward side of the island.

  • By nevisislander at yahoo.co.uk
  • Date: Tue, 6 Dec 2011 14:28:30 -0400
Good day everyone,

A mixed bag regarding the weather today. Sunshine with long periods of rain. The ground is now pretty well saturated what with the rain and run-off from Nevis Peak. I’ve added a couple of photos ..... two from yesterday and two from today. Yesterday there was more rain and today is more sunshine with long showers. Went into Charlestown today and I certainly noticed the increase in humidity with all the moisture in the air. It also seemed to be dryer unlike where I am in St John’s Fig tree which is more in the shadow of the prevailing winds and Nevis Peak.

- Drying Out
  • By nevisislander at yahoo.co.uk
  • Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2011 11:13:36 -0400
Good morning,

Started off with heavy cloud cover this morning and had some more rain for about an hour starting at 7am. Things have brightened up now with some Caribbean blue appearing but there are still some threatening grey clouds coming over now and again. Also there is some noticeable ‘brownness’ to the blue sea near the coastline due to run-off.

Added some photos – two of Saddle Hill 7 am  and 10 am this morning, view out to the Caribbean Sea 7 am and 10 am and one of the run-off discolouration near the shore.

waiting to see what the rest of the day will bring.

Enjoy your day,

Good afternoon,

Looks like a winter’s day in England at the moment – grey skies, a little chilly and light rain or drizzle falling since 3pm. Looks as if there were a few strong gusts of wind last night as a tree branch was down in my yard.

Snapped a few photos around the homestead – lots of grey cloud. Can’t see Nevis Peak at all as it is shrouded in a thick grey blanket.

Even the Vervet Monkeys look fed up and a bit wet and bedraggled as they shelter under the trees and bushes.

Hopefully only another day of this Smile

Most of today has been cloudy but dry ........ that is up until about 5 pm. It has been raining steadily since then (now 8:30 pm). No heavy downpours as yet but there have been a few squalls with the wind rising and falling. I drove down some back roads to get home at about 6 pm and a number of places were awash with run off from Nevis Peak. We will see what tomorrow brings.

- Raining Last Night
  • By "Frank" <frank.goodwill at btinternet.com>
  • Date: Sun, 27 Nov 2011 09:48:32 -0400
Good morning,

Heavy downpours last night from about midnight. We had some thunder and lightening to start with which took the ac power out at about 00:20 hours. NEVLEC did a good job with restoration at 09:00 this morning and a courtesy call to check all was well. The joys of power outages during the hurricane season due to storms can be demonstrated by the attached photograph from September this year. Luckily no damage to the building (fire) and also the fridge connected to this outlet is still working. This is a UK plug that has a fuse in it for 230v ac. The fuse in the plug exploded due to a current surge/lightening strike on the NEVLEC distribution system.

Back to today. The rain has stopped and the sky is still overcast with the sun occasionally breaking through. So somewhat unsettled this morning but brightening up.

Regards,

Frank Goodwill

  • Date: Sat, 19 Nov 2011 21:36:40 -0400
We had a couple of short sharp showers early Saturday morning. The cloud has diminished slowly as the day has progressed. So here I am siting on the veranda watching the sun go down... drinking a good cup of tea (PG Tips). The sky is clear blue turning ultramarine as the sun goes down. There are clouds on the horizon that have been painted by the sun with various shades of orange and yellow. For me a spiritual moment.

Attached are a few photos that may give some  justice to the scene.

It has been pretty humid this week and today is no exception. It has been dry so far but cloud has built up this afternoon and now at 4 pm we are getting those continuous rolling rumbles of thunder from the east. The breeze has dropped and it is still and hazy. I was doing some tidying up in the garden but in these conditions the old sweat glands went into overdrive, so a lazy, hazy, Wednesday afternoon for me.

Very little rain, not much wind. Sun shining & calm.
This sure was a strange one. The satellite images looked scary. Not more that 40-50-60 miles away other islands go wind & rain.
Nevis was spared.

Weather station data shows maximum gust just under 30 mph & 1.45 inches of rain since yesterday same time.
At present winds have dissipated and rain bands have stopped. Sky looks a bit brighter now.
Definitely not a beach day but then again I forgot when we've had the last 'nice' beach day. Seems like more clouds & rain then sun for weeks on end.

All the best,

Harry

Greetings All,

Traveling in USA at the present but have been watching NOAA reports & satellite images (when Internet access is available).
From everything I see the storm is south of Nevis & still a bit disorganized.
Winds are predicted to be in the 30-35 mph range with gusts to 40 for Tuesday am then decreasing thru the afternoon. Islands are not reporting much rain as of this time.
The pressure has remained around 1008-1009 mb for the last 24 hrs. which tells me there has been no increase in strength. I'm guess it will become a tropical cyclone after it passes into the Caribbean Sea.
Doesn't mean to relax just yet though.

All the best,

Harry

Good Afternoon

We are experiencing extremely warm weather 34.5 in the shade at the moment with 63 per cent humidity, we have  had no  appreciable rain for over two weeks now. Today we have a gusty breeze which is great and the pool feels like getting into a warm bath.

Just a little rain would help please. The pic is the St Kitts penninsular from Cades bay Nevis

Regards

Keith

Greetings,

Well finally Nevis got a "hand full" of rain last night, well maybe a "hat full" would be better said.

The weather station recorded over 1.2 inches between 6pm & 10pm. Enough to fill most cisterns & give the garden a good watering.
Oh those little things in life that make one happy!!!

All the best,

Harry
