- Hurricane Rina

Good Morning,

So far it sounds like the wind passing overhead may be in the 20 to 22 knot range from the North Northwest. We have rain bands passing over the island for about the couple of hours. In this Bight (Calabash Bight) since we are on the South side of the island and below the local mountain tops we get occasional bursts of about 7 knots. Rina should pass North of us by about 85 NM and not pose much threat other than more rain and some wind / surf on the north side.

Sorry folks,

Pretty tired here since I watch the boats around here to make sure they and ours are safe. Present Barometer was 1008. Not 1000.8 and now has climbed to 1012. Most recent position on Harvey is 16.6N X 87.0W.

Hello,

Lori and I have been watching this and found that Harvey must have passed almost right over us around 2:30 AM local 2030 UTC. Minimum pressure was 995 and highest winds in the Bight were 42 knots. A lot of rain since midnight, 1.64 inches and total since yesterday is 4.1 inches. Right now we have 15 to 20 knots from the south to south east with it swinging around. I suspect Harvey is still building and moving in a more westerly direction as it passed closer to us then forecast. Presently Barometer is rising and is 1000.8 now.

Looks like Harvey is here. We had a brief heavy shower this morning a little after 6:00 and then it got very nice except for the lack of any breeze. In fact our station manager was enjoying his day off by hitting a few golf balls on the radio station grounds here.

That has just changed. A rain band with a little thunder is coming through Gravel Bay now with moderately heavy rain and a little wind, but not much. It's giving the rain gutters all they can handle> Satellite images make it look like the heaviest stuff is still on the way, but it doesn't look very serious.

- Tropical Depression Eight

Hi Everyone,

So far it has been quiet and now we have a Depression forecast to go right near or over us here on Roatan. Most of my weather products tell me that it will not amount to much more than a rain event as it passes and we are all looking for it to stay that way, we hope anyway. The hurricane center has it forecast as a tropical Storm as it passes south of us but that may not pan out as the mountains would tear it up quite a lot. If it actually passes just north of us or south of us it may build a bit more, we will see.

Right now we are surrounded by thunder storm activity and have some light intermittent showers but nothing major at this time.

its a really beautiful afternoon on roatan with some interesting cloud formations to the north.  like everyone else here i am waiting for some rain from this system (still nameless)  most people on the island would love to receive 4 to 8 inches of rain for their cisterns.  the farm where i live and work sure could use the rain also. will keep checking in to see if we get a harvey or not.

Dave,
maybe the reason that 93L hasn't lifted her bloomers is that the next designated storm's name is "Harvey". Now for 93L, we are preparing for whatever, we are surely in the need for some good moisture as it has been very dry, a once in awhile rain shower in the late evenings. All eyes here on Roatan are on watch status for our sleepy 93L

The last few days have been fairly windy from the low 20’s into the high 40’s and at one point gusts into the 50 mph range. It seems to be settling a little bit now but another tropical wave will stir it back up again.  We had rain a week ago but not much since......

P.S. We have had a weather station up here since last September and you can access it here: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/wishwilly/
or at http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=rtb   and select private station in calabash bight. Keep in mind that we are surrounded by hills higher then us except from the SSE to SSW.
