Hello all,

As you can see in the snapshot, we have prevailing sunshine this morning after a very wet day yesterday.

As it turned out, in the last 24 hours we got 5.18 inches of rain.  Things are mostly drying up here today, although parts of the island are going to quite wet for a few days…

For the latest weather, check http://CayeCaulkerWeather.com  and if you’d like to see historical data for Caye Caulker weather, have a look at our station statistics at WunderGround, our Personal Weather Station ID is IBELIZED2

- Lots of rain on Caye Caulker as well...

Wow, Caye Caulker, Belize is getting a downpour!

Still no thunder or lightning but steady, steady rain…  Winds are 8 to 10 mph with gusts to 16 or so… Barometer is 1012 and starting to drop slowly…

We have had over 2.75 inches of rain today, mostly in the last few hours.  At one point, I recorded a rain rate of over 8 inches per hour.  Now THAT’S a downpour!

We’ll keep an eye on the boat… The battery is fully charged so it should keep the bilge pump goin’ for quite a while…

Check www.CayeCaulkerWeather.com for up to date conditions and WeatherCam images during daylight hours…

Stay dry!

5 Miles North of San Pedro Town - Ambergris Caye.

About Ida's rain-bands ......... they arrived. No thunder or lightening but off and on white-out conditions with gusty winds.

Our emergency agencies are primarily concerned about the possibility of flooding on the Mainland over the next couple of days.

I'd say it's the perfect day to have one's boat parked in very shallow water - auto bilges are not going to keep up with this.

Hello all,

It’s been quite wet these last few days here on Caye Caulker.  The rain has been welcome, everyone’s vats should be filled by now!

There has been the usual flooding when we get heavy rains, but it all seeps in within a day or so.  A couple of days ago, we had 4.8 inches of rain within a 24 hour period…  Pretty wet!

And, judging from the image from our weather cam taken just a couple minutes ago, more rain is on the way…

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the system off the Nicaragua coast, it could easily come that close to the Belize coast in a few days…

A few good rains sent in over the weekend for which we are grateful, as it's been way to dry for our plants and cisterns this season.

Keeping our eyes on 97L. Trying not to be complacent. It's so easy to forget the storm plan when you have had a season that is so benign. We've eaten most of our hurricane food and our spare fuel stores are low. I'm sure we're not the only ones!

Time to get some extras and to service the gene - just in case.

Cheers
Diane, somewhere north of San Pedro Town

On Ambergris Caye a cold front arrived last night with some fanfare - lightening and thunder and a bit of rain.  Really beautiful.  Today's temps are in the low 80's (cold front?!) instead of 90's and the air is crisp and clear.
I note that there is a blob of rain-clouds down by Honduras/Nicaragua, and when one of those blobs bumps into a cold front sometimes things develop.  Jeff Masters mentioned that in his report today.
We're badly in need of rain so the idea of a mild tropical event is kind of enticing.

Enjoy the day .........!

- Rainy days on Caye Caulker in Belize...

DSC09381.JPGHello Everyone,

Well, we have WET WEATHER to report on from Caye Caulker in Belize!  It’s been raining most of the day with a total of 1.8 inches today as of 1:40 pm.  It’s a different kind of rain today, not the usual rain associated with squalls passing over from the NE.  Today, we have full overcast and steady rain, heavy at times…  It’s a good day to stay indoors!  As Jimmy said, ‘Rainy day, dream away”…

I know these rainfall amounts because we have our new weather station installed, functioning and connected to the internet!  This is Caye Caulkers only ‘internet connected’ weather station where live data is uploaded to our new website, www.CayeCaulkerWeather.com , once every 30 seconds…

When you visit www.CayeCaulkerWeather.com you can navigate your way to the Live Weather Data page using the link on the right.  We’ll be adding other pages  with information about specific weather patterns here on Caye Caulker, Weather Terms and we’ll see what else.

So, have a look and check back with www.CayeCaulkerWeather.com whenever you’d like to see what’s happening on Caye Caulker.  You can contact us at barry at cayecaulkerweather.com or use the form on the Contact Us page at the site.

We hope you enjoy www.CayeCaulkerWeather.com and we look forward to hearing from you with any comments you might have.

Have a great day,

- Hot Days and Light Breezes on Caye Caulker...
  • From: "Barry" <barry at cayecaulkerweather.com>
  • Date: Tue, 1 Sep 2009 12:22:09 -0600

Hi all,

Here on Caye Caulker, the last several days have been HOT!  Temperatures have been in the high 80’s and low 90’s with light breezes, humidity up and down around 72%.

Here in Belize, late September and October is when we have our highest probability of storms and hurricanes, so we have a few weeks left before we are in our ‘high’ season.

It seems I94 has everyone guessing as to what it might do…  keep a close eye in it!

Until next time,

Barry in Belize

- Rain Coming Soon To Caye Caulker in Belize...
  • From: "Barry Beer" <barry at cayecaulkerweather.com>
  • Date: Wed, 26 Aug 2009 15:05:05 -0600

Hello from Belize!

My name is Barry and I live on Caye Caulker, off the coast of Belize.  My wife Cindy and I have lived here on the island for two years but we've been in Belize since '05.  We're from Victoria, BC in Canada and much prefer the weather here in the tropics!  We live right on the beach, on the east side of the caye, so we can see the weather coming for miles.  As significant weather develops here on the caye, I'll be posting updates to StormCarib.

We've had a pretty easy summer here so far...  Just the usual squalls that blow in from the north-east (with lots of sunshine too of course).  I'm sure you all know that when the wind picks up a bit and there's a coolness in the air, the rain is coming soon!  And that's what's happening right now!  I've attached a picture below that I just took minutes ago (you can see the waves breaking on the Belize Barrier Reef in the distance)...  Got to go close the shutters and the front door now!

All the best,

Barry in Belize

It's the day of the patron saint of fishermen - St. Peter.
Our town, San Pedro, celebrates with a blessing of the fleet and a boat procession at dawn.

Happy Dia De San Pedro to all the fishermen out there !!!!

Sunny skies and nice breeze on Ambergris Caye.
Looks like our friends about 50 miles north have the blob and his rain, but down here it's quite lovely.

About the latest Invest-blob and Ambergris Caye, Belize -
Our area NEMO (National Emergency Management Organization) had a meeting this morning.   NEMO committees are on standby "just in case".
Main concern is informing people that they should take extra care of their boats to avoid sinking from too much rain and bashing from waves.
Waves inside reef expected to be 2-3 feet (which is noticeable for us) and rains could be sufficient to sink boats.  Boat owners are advised to move boats to shallow waters and secure them well.
Local predictions are for Ambergris Caye and Northern Belize to begin to get some weather late in the day tomorrow (Saturday).
Time to check those ropes for strength, repair the "auto" of the auto bilge, and maybe even buy a new raincoat?

Meanwhile today's weather is beyond beautiful - it's sublime !!   Hot, calm seas, blue skies with a few puffy clouds .......... a fantastic day to be alive and living on this spit of sand.
Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude.

HI Everybody -

After a hot and very dry spell, we have a mid tropical wave bringing us wonderful rains - cisterns are filling, plants are greening, flowers are opening and temperatures are cooled.

I am reminded of the Blacksmith Lady Mambazo choral (circa 1987, and still a classic)

"Oh rain, oh rain
Oh rain, oh rain, beautiful rain ........

Oh come, never come, oh come, never come
Oh come to me beautiful rain ...

Rain, rain, rain, beautiful rain. "

Cheers from fantastic Ambergris Caye Belize.

Most of Belize felt the quake. Placencia, Monkey River and
Independence seemed to get the hardest wack.
Damage there - including big cracks in the road, a few collapsed
homes, collapsed concrete water tower.
Some parts of the ground in Placencia and Independence erupted with
water geysers - one report said the water gushed up 10 feet in the air.

On Ambergris Caye we had a good shake, but no damage to structures.
A sink-hole opened up in one area - reportedly 30 feet across.
