- TS Olga

Residents in the Turks and Caicos Islands are being greeted with clear skies, a few high cirrus clouds and gusty winds this morning.  Our gaze is to the east/southeast to see what TS Olga will dish out over the coming days. Christmas shopping is in full swing.  I suppose we will have to add emergency supplies and some plywood to the shopping list.

- TS Noel

Residents in the Turks and Caicos are thankful for the 'quiet' passing of TS Noel.  The storm was basically a rain maker.  There were scattered thunderstorms which produced heavy downpours and strong gusts at times. The season still has a month to go.  We will keep our fingers crossed for our neighbours in  Cuba and the Bahamas.

- October Rain

Low pressure systems in our vicinity have been causing widespread showers and thunderstorms over the Turks and Caicos Islands for the past week.  First the storms came at us from the northwest, now they are now coming in from the east.
This is a welcome change compared to the the warm summer days we have been experiencing.  The weather experts seem to think there is something brewing east of us.  We will know in a few days.
The sky is overcast and we are expecting rain throughout the night - a cozy night is in the making.

- Dean's Outstretched Fingers

As Dean claws through the warmer waters of the Caribbean Sea pouring out his wrath on our neighbours to the south, we are beginning to have visible signs of the monster.  A feeder band is passing directly over us at this time; seas are choppy and there is the possibility of a few light showers. This is reminiscent of an afternoon in 1979 when hurricane David was on an almost similar track.
Our prayers and thoughts are with our neighbours.

- Hot & Humid...
  • From: Edgar Howell <howelledgar at yahoo.co.uk>

After the rains in May we are back to hot and humid days typical of June in these parts.  Currently the temperature is at 89 F with a Heat Index of 107 F.  Winds are out of the SE at 9 mph, barometric pressure 29.90 inches  and humidity 76%.
On days like these we are thankful that the ocean is only a 5 minute drive away.

- Sunshine After the Rain
  • From: Edgar Howell <howelledgar at yahoo.co.uk>
  • Date: Thu, 3 May 2007 17:42:30 +0000 (GMT)
We are finally seeing clear skies  and sunshine after heavy thunder showers throughout the night and into the morning.  The heaviest of the rain fell this morning on the island of Providenciales.  There are reports of a Tornado which caused damage to property in the community of Sandy Point on the island of North Caicos earlier today.  Electrical poles and trees were uprooted, doors were blown in and one roof was destroyed.  Luckily no lives were lost.  Emergency teams are busy working on restoring power to the island.
Weather extremes are not uncommon in these parts.  The daytime temperature  at Providenciales is already back to its summertime norm 87 F.
