- Strong Winds and Rain
  • From: Mark Halabecki <pioneering_mark at yahoo.ca>
  • Date: Tue, 15 Nov 2005 14:43:41 -0500 (EST)
Although we all thought it was over, it has returned.  The strong winds and blowing rain has begun to hit us here in Roseau, again!  We had a rather quiet night and early morning.  Last nights rain and wind caused one confirmed landslide right behind a school.  Luckily there were no kids in the school, and there are no reported injuries or casualties.

Well people of the islands, I'm praying for the worst to be over or us all.

Until next time, keep safe everyone!

Well, we're experiencing heavy rains and strong winds right now.  I am expecting this to be the case tomorrow as well. Haven't heard of any landslides yet, but I am sure there will be reports soon.

I am praying for the safety of the islands. Keep safe everyone!

Well, today and the past few days all we have had here in Roseau is rain and wind.  Now seeing the radars on StormCarib, it will be like this for the next few days at least, and possibly even Tropical Depression Gamma.  I am praying for everyone in the wake of this new storm and hope that it spares all of the islands any extensive damage or loss of life.

Well, that's all from Roseau.  Keep safe everyone!

For those of you who do not live in the tropics and are considering a vacation to the tropics, be forewarned that it is currently the rainy season and here in Roseau, Dominica, that's what it has been doing for the past week!  It rains, clears up for an hour, and rains again!  Inconsistent weather!

Well, that's all today!

Well, right now it is very windy here in Roseau.  It has been like this throughout the day.  It has also been raining off-and-on all day.  Not too much storm activity.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Beta's path.  Hopefully we won't get to Gamma, or more than Gamma.

Take care and keep safe everyone!

- Weather Due to Potential Tropical Depression Alpha
  • From: Mark Halabecki <pioneering_mark at yahoo.ca>
  • Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 22:13:27 -0400 (EDT)
Here in Roseau, Dominica we have been bombarded with rain and really strong winds, with gusts that were almost strong enough to blow me over.

We haven't seen the sun in 2 days because of this system, and I would really like the heat back rather than have all of this rain and wind.

Well, I am praying that this doesn't turn to Hurricane Alpha and pose a threat to any of the Antilles.  I am also praying for the people in countries in Hurricane Wilma's path.

Until next time, keep safe everyone!

Here in Roseau today we had quite strong gusts of wind together with constant scattered showers.

It has been cloudy and rainy for the past few days.  Looks like this for the next few days.

I am praying for all of the people in Wilma's path and hopefully we won't have another Hurricane on Wilma's tail.

Well today we have some sun, but at the same time we have some big dark grey clouds coming in from the West side of the island to us here in Roseau.  We have come back to average temperatures which is currently at 28 degrees Celsius, 82.5 degrees Fahrenheit.  Nice day to do some yard work and go for a walk or belmache (local word for a hike but am unsure of the spelling).

Well, here in Roseau the wind is starting to pick up.  I am praying that this new storm to the east of us will spare us and all of the other islands of the Caribbean.  I really don't want to experience a hurricane.  Well, that's all from Roseau.

- Rainy Season Has Arrived
  • From: Mark Halabecki <pioneering_mark at yahoo.ca>
  • Date: Sun, 2 Oct 2005 23:33:26 -0400 (EDT)
Well, today in Roseau we started with a nice, warm morning.  This nice morning turned to a dark afternoon full of thunder and rain.  In the early evening it stopped and cleared up and now it is raining again.  This is what the weather has been like for the past few days.

That's what the weather is like here in Roseau.

  • From: Mark Halabecki <pioneering_mark at yahoo.ca>
  • Date: Sat, 24 Sep 2005 18:53:34 -0400 (EDT)
Today we had a warm morning, which brewed into a stormy evening.  We've had a thunder showers, then sun, then rain and thunder for the past 5 hours or so.  Now it seems as if it is calming down and going to be a clear night, but the weather is extremely unpredictable because after my last post, it started thundering and lightning and pouring rain.

Well, anyway, that is what is happening in Roseau.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Mark and I am currently in Roseau.  I will keep you updated from the west side of the island.

Today we had some irregular clouds moving extremely quickly and it seemed as if they were going in a wide circular motion.  We had a few bangs of thunder, and now, there are still clouds and no thunder.  That's what it has been like for most of today.  We've also had sputters of rain here and there, but nothing major.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted from the west side of the island.

Bye for now,
Mark

Hello from Dominica:

Well they are definitely right when they call for 'disturbed weather patterns'.  We have had a constant barrage of 'thunder and lightening' all day, with the associated torrential rains.

Hello from Dominica:

Some extensive rain showers this afternoon but at the present 2110 hours it is very quite with no wind, no clouds and the sea is dead calm.............just a nice full moon.  Maybe its 'the quite before the storm'.

High winds and rain came through last night about 3:00 am in the morning and last about two hours.  Things have died off now but it is still a 'blustery day' with high swells coming off the Atlantic.  The sun is trying to poke out of gray overcast skies other than that I think we have seen the 'worst' of Emily.

Dear Gert,

Hello from the Commonwealth of Dominica. I too concur with the correspondents from Vieques and Barbados- it definitely looks like a somewhat more wnw direction by Hurricane Emily during these last few hours, perhaps this is a wobble though. This may put us Here in Dominica more in line for some rough Storm weather or some nasty squally weather at best by early morning time Thursday.

We'll see however, But I am CONCERNED As I still think very strongly that a Watch of some kind or a Severe weather advisory should have AT LEAST Been issued for the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica by Now. Disaster mangagement Officials and Government Officials should have been well apprised already.

Peace, Love and Prayers to All in Emilys' path or already being affected now in some way.

Hope and Trust in the Lord Always!

Well it's now 7:50pm

What an afternoon will bring.  The black clouds have blown over, the rain has stopped, the sea is calm, we now have a gentle breeze and the stars are just coming out to make for a pleasant evening.

Dominica at 1:58 pm

Well around 11:00 am this morning storm clouds drifted in bringing in dark clouds,  wind, rain and white-caps on the Atlantic, it certainly looks like the leading edge of a storm.

The wind and rain continues to be intermittent but looking to the south east a line of black clouds are slowly building up.

I talked to several workers at the work site and at the village of Marigot
and they seem to concerned.  They felt that Emily was well South of Dominica and all they expect is some wind and rain.  So to them it is business as usual.

Hi:

My name is John and I am on an extended stay in the Commonwealth of Dominica from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.   I live in Calibishie area which is at the northern end of Dominica and work in the Carib Territory on the eastern part of the island.  Both areas are exposed to the Atlantic so I must admit I feel quite exposed to any type of storm heading this way.  I hope my reports will be of some assistance.  Please do not hesitate to contact me for any additional information

It is now 9:35 am on Monday morning (July 13, 2005) and looking out over the Atlantic at a  gray and overcast sky with a nice "fresh" breeze blowing in a North westerly direction.  No 'official' storm warning watch for Dominica.

At  8:00 am this morning radio report down graded the Hurricane Watch to a Tropical Storm watch for Barbados, St Lucia and Martinique.  Being just north of those island I would expect to see some of the effects of Emily''
