- Claudette Gone!!
  • From: mmallen AT cybervale.com
  • Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 11:13:02 -0500 (EST)
Claudette was a no show really, not that I am complaining. Up to 3:00 a.m.
this morning it was very windy, a welcome from the heat of the summer.
There was some breeze late this morning but the rain, as far as I know, has
stopped. It is quite sunny out now with a light breeze. I have not heard of
any reports of flooding or landslippage and things seem to be under control
at the moment. I guess we just have to wait and see what Danny will bring,
if he forms. WALK GOOD!!!

Hello from south-western Jamaica (Whitehouse in Westmoreland to be specific). Claudette was pretty much a non-event here too. We had about half an hour of heavy wind and rain yesterday, late morning.  It has been cloudy for 24 hours and we had about 2" of rain total but nothing out of the ordinary. The sea is a little rough with waves that are rolling in but nothing dangerous.  S0...our lovely little island missed the bullet again. 'Til next time....

- Tropical Storm Claudette

Hi Everyone,

Kerry-Ann Morris here from St. Catherine, Jamaica. Well, Claudette did pose
a threat but this is no longer the case. Today the Met. Office lifted the
Tropical Storm Warning, however, people were still preparing for the worst
case scenario. While there wasn't a rush on the supermarket shelves as in
the past, fishermen kept their boats onshore and planes were anchored to
their places at the Tinson Pen aerodrome. There was some rain in St.
Catherine and Kingston, however, I haven't heard of much else happening.
However, I will keep you all up to date as the season progresses. Maybe our
luck will hold for the rest of the season, you think? WALK GOOD!!!

Kerry-Ann

Claudette's effect was minimal in the Corporate Area. There were only overcast conditions and light drizzles on and off during the day. Whilst at the National Stadium watching a friendly soccer match between Jamaica and Paraguay, light rains started at about 7pm and continued until 8:30pm. Since then, there has been no more rain.

Claudette was a non-event in Jamaica, at least in the Corporate area.

By the way, Jamaica won 2 - 0.

It is now just around 6.30 pm in Downtown Kingston.
After light rainfall this morning, the rains eased to
an almost imperceptible level accompanied by overcast
conditions. There is no wind.
No problem, when you are accustomed to day after day
of continuous sunshine.
Peace

At 4:45 PM Claudette has passed without much more than intermittent drizzles (and a little more than that on a few occasions). I am reporting from Kingston where the skies have been and remain overcast for the entire day since 8am this morning. I do hope Claudette will avoid other land areas the way it did Jamaica.

Hi
I just drove to work in Downtown Kingston from the
Liguanea area of the capital, experiencing light
rainfall. The rain started in the mid-morning and
shows no sign of easing.
No problems so far.

Hi all, I'm presently in Montego Bay Jamaica and this
morning we had some serious thunder, strong winds and
rain. However, by 7:00a.m. the sun was out and still
is up to this time. I'm hoping that this nice sunny
weather will last.

Hi everyone,
I am in Kingston Jamaica which is nice and quiet right now. Outside is really cool but as you may know by now Claudette will not bother us. You all have a wonderful day.

It is 7:00 a.m. on the South Coast of Jamaica and all is well. The sky has a few high clouds but there is no wind and the sea is calm. I understand that will all change soon but for now we see no signs. The predictions I have heard are for very high seas but not much wind or rain.  We are keeping our fingers croassed and will report later.

- Claudette is yet to arrive - Wednesday 6:15 am

At 6:15 AM it is still very calm and sunny here in Portmore St. Catherine. People are going to work as they would normally do. I support this is because there was an expectation of the effects of Claudette being felt last night and - NOTHING happened. There is still a storm warning in effect for Jamaica so I will continue to give periodic updates until it is lifted.

Good for you to remember me!  I am still here on the north west corner of Jamaica.  This one looks like rain, and some big waves on the Iron Shore.  I've been wrong before/

Well folks the sky is full of star (but a little hazy)  here in Portmore, St. Catherine at 11 PM. It is very calm - no winds (maybe the calm before the storm).  While Claudette is projected to pass to the south of Jamaica the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has activated its emergency procedures.
