- INVEST 94-L
  • By "Steve Donahue" <tainos at anguillanet.com>
  • Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2017 09:37:22 -0400

There has been no further development of this system and chances of development in next 5 days have now been lowered to around 70%.  All current models call for the system to pass well to the north of us and is no threat at this time.  No further updates on this system - but continue to keep an eye out for any changes.

- FW: INVEST 94-L STORM
  • By "Steve Donahue" <tainos at anguillanet.com>
  • Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2017 11:53:46 -0400

WEDNESDAY, July 4 – 11:39 AM

Some changes with Invest 94-L this AM, now with the potential to become TS Don by tomorrow, and possibly graze us to the north on Saturday-Sunday.  Unless there is additional strengthening/track change, should just bring us some squally/rainy weather.  Crown forecast today;

“Given the appearance of Invest 94-L on satellite imagery and the fact that it will be embedded within favorable environmental conditions for development, I think that there is at least a 90 percent chance that we will see Invest 94-L become Tropical Storm Don by Wednesday.

Everyone Across The Northern Lesser Antilles {includes Anguilla}, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico & The Northeastern Caribbean should at least be prepared for tropical storm conditions starting on Saturday and continuing into the first half of Sunday.”

As always – continue to monitor the forecast.  Cheers,

Steve Donahue

TUESDAY, July 3 – 9:59 AM

Based on this morning’s forecast, looks like no real threat for us here in AXA.  No further updates unless things change for the worse.  Cheers,

Even though it is looking increasingly more likely that Invest 94-L will pass to the north of the Lesser Antilles, I would still caution Everyone Across The Northern Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico to keep a close eye on this tropical disturbance. There is the potential that this system could still come close enough to produce squally weather this weekend.”

- SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE NEXT WEEKEND
  • By "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Sun, 2 Jul 2017 11:51:45 -0400

Nothing to be too concerned about right now but could be some bad weather next weekend – POSSIBLY a tropical storm but probably just a tropical disturbance with some rain/gusty winds.  Just need to keep an eye on because it si forecast to pass over us.  The Crown Weather Service forecast this morning:

“As of right now, I think there is a 40 to 50 percent chance that we will see a tropical depression form to the east of the Lesser Antilles between 30 and 40 West Longitude around Tuesday or Wednesday.

Everyone Across The Lesser Antilles” {this includes Anguilla},” Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico should keep very close tabs on this tropical disturbance. There is the potential that this system could impact you next weekend as, at the minimum, a strong tropical disturbance and very possibly as a tropical storm.”

Just need to keep an eye on it this week.  Cheers,

- March Rain
  • By "Joanie Howard" <joanie.howard1 at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 2 Apr 2017 12:05:48 +0100
Sadly I have had to leave my winter home and return to the mud and rain in the English Lake District. Talking of rain, up to when I left Anguilla last Wednesday our total rainfall on the Searocks for March had been .98 of an inch and I don’t think there has been any more since, it was quite hot the last few days 91F on the day I left and the ocean was flat calm with very little breeze but I am told the north east wind is back and the sea is stirring again. I leave you for now with a pic of Captains Bay and Scrub Island  in one of the big seas we had in the last few months.
My best to all and in hope of a Hurricane free season to come.

The current temp is 78f and we have had high winds and very rough seas for
about the last week and 3/4 of an inch of rain since 01 March, plants are sort
of happy, bit of rain but quite a lot of salt in the wind as well. I had to
send you this picture of the Anguilla Tulip which is actually a Mahogany seed
just opening, just another example of how nature

Good Evening Everyone, it is very un-Anguilla like weather, the current temp is 73F in the breeze, the sun, that has been invisible since lunch time, has just gone down, we have had about a quarter of an inch of rain, which I must say is much needed.  I am sitting  at my computer in a pair of Levis a cotton shirt and a cotton sweater and my body temp is just about OK, but it is definitely what I would call bed-weather. Definitely no diving tomorrow, the sea is angry, someone has upset it, large wild rollers coming in. Stay warm ad dry.
Best regards,

Good Morning to you all,
Just to post that we had .93 of an inch of rain during the whole of February here on the Searocks, that means less than 2 inches so far in 2017. Not enough by a long shot.  We have very strong winds gusting at the moment and there is supposed to be a local sailboat race this afternoon, which should be interesting to say the least. The Temp is a lovely 80F in the shade, the ocean a deep blue with a lot of whitecaps and it is gorgeous. I attach a pic of The Tradition, one of our old local sloops which has been beautifully restored and will take you out sailing.
My best to all,

Evening everyone,
On this night of the beautiful full moon, I send you this pic of it over island
harbour, the best I can do without a flash. It has been a great day today here
in Anguilla, lovely dive off Sandy Island, 3 HUGE Barracudas, a couple of nice,
quite big nurse sharks, thankfully sleeping, and a lovely big turtle. Then
listened to some great music from the 264 string band at Madearimon Restaurant
on Shaol Bay, the place to be on Anguilla on a Saturday Afternoon. The food is
delicious as well.
I wish you all a very good night,

- January Rain
  • By "Joanie Howard" <joanie.howard1 at gmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 1 Feb 2017 19:20:30 -0000
Good Afternoon Everybody,
I did remember to say “White Rabbits” first thing this AM so hopefully February will be a lucky month for us all. The current temp is 80F and there is a strong easterly breeze, very comfortable in the shade.
The total rainfall for January on the Searocks was .99 of an inch, not enough I am afraid, the plants are still thirsty and dropping their leaves everywhere. Lovely dive at Anguillita yesterday, but the island is quiet, the hotels and restaurants are not busy and this should be our prime time, so please come on down if you are in need of a holiday. Small Brown Dog Mark II is busy lounging on the gallery and chasing lizards but has been completely flummoxed by Harry our resident wild tortoise who will absolutely not run away, see pics.
I wish everyone a great rest of the day and evening.

A Very Happy New Year to all and sundry. current temp is 78F, extremely comfortable compared with many other parts of the world, and there is a new moon and a fresh breeze. Where else would one want to be? I was invited to a party tonight but as I would like to start 2017 in my happy place 75 or so feet under the ocean I declined the Indian food (no doubt delicious) and assortment of various people of paradise ( to borrow T&T’s words) so that I can get up at 6.30 get my dive gear together, feed, water and walk the small brown dog before I jump onto Dougie’s boat, breath the ions off the ocean and tip off  backwards into the Atlantic Ocean. 2016 saw me make 70 years as they say here, and one of my Anguillan friends said the other day, “but Joanie you are only 70EC dollars not 70US. So I attach a pic where one can look great at 70EC in a 3mil wetsuit with a mask and regulator hiding all the wrinkles. Have a happy time and a great year everyone.

- November Rainfall
  • By "Joanie Howard" <joanie.howard1 at gmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 2 Dec 2016 21:05:21 -0000
Good Evening to All (wherever you are),
A lovely day here after some very iffy weather this weeks, quite a lot of rain, then no wind, then breeze from the North West which is unusual, now gone back around to the East.  The total rainfall here on the Searocks since I arrived on the 3rd November has been 5.31 inches, which is good, plants are happy, cistern is reasonable, the pool was brimming to the top last week but after having 4 grandchildren for Thanksgiving it was emptied by about 6 inches! The current temp is 82F on the balcony and the sun is gently sinking down over Shoal Bay East, the Atlantic is calm to the North and the sky is turning pink and gold.
We have had some wonderful diving and I attach a young visitor from Philadelphia communing with the resident Red Grouper on the Oosterdiep Wreck.
Lets hope the fat lady is singing and we have seen the last of the storms.
My best to everyone,
JH

Good evening all, this is how the super moon looked tonight in Anguilla looking
Southeast toward St Barts and St Martin, not as stunning as the pic posted by
Grenada but very beautiful all the same. I am afraid i can't resist sending you
the small brown dog mark ll cooling herself in the pool as well.
It sounds as though the North of Santo Domingo is having a very bad time, I
wish them no more rain for the moment and lovely sunshine like we have had here
today. It has been a sparkling day.
My best to everyone and a good night.

  • By "Joanie Howard" <joanie.howard1 at gmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2016 22:34:55 -0000
As it is the 11th day of the 11th month I feel we should all remember them. I am reading a book  called The Secret Hunters by Rannulph Fiennes at the moment and the horrors of what happened in the last two world wars is not to be contemplated, if all our brave men and women had not fought the Nazis what would the world be like now?

Anguilla is beautiful, calm and peaceful at the moment, temp is 84F and we have had 1.90 inches of rain since I arrived back on 03 November, it is hot though and I have the fans all going.

I wish everyone a Good Evening,

  • By "Joanie Howard" <joanie.howard1 at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 6 Nov 2016 23:36:56 -0000
A very good evening to all,
I am so happy to be back in Anguilla, even though it is hot, humid and rainy. Since my last post we have had 2.40 inches and today we had .70 of an inch of rain, the pool has become an infinity pool again but it is good to be warm (36F in The English lake District at the moment with sleet), my dive computer says it is 80F in the house at the moment. The Island is green and the plants are happy, so are the mosquitos as well, if you are coming soon don’t bother to bring perfume, just bring the OFF or other repellant. Last night there was plenty of thunder and lightening to the north and the ‘son et lumiere’ was spectacular. Lovely dive with Dougie this AM, eels, octopuses, rays, turtles and a lovely wahoo swam by, also saw a live healthy Flame Helmet on the bottom which is quite rare.
Small Brown dog mark II behaved impeccably through Manchester, Paris (Charles de Gaul Airport) St. Martin and on the GB Express ferry and I attach a couple of pics of her making friends with others of her age at Sandy Ground this morning.
I wish everyone a great evening,

Afternoon Everyone,
I have had an email from my neighbour.   Yesterday on the Searocks was very gusty with squalls and he kindly reset my rain gauge and we have had an inch of rain in the last 24 hours, power is out on our road but nowhere else, Murphy’s law I suppose. I attach a pic of my house yesterday, grey and squally, but better than here where we have had winds up to 70MPH in gusts and horizontal rain on and off, the remnants of Karl I think.
Take care and good luck if you are in the way of this storm, it looks like it could do almost anything, wouldn’t surprise me if it turned around and headed back to Anguilla as a Cat something hurricane.

Good Evening,
I have no immediate news of Anguilla, though I hope my house is shut up tight, but this storm looks like one of those unpredictable ones to me, and Mother Nature can (and does) make fools of us all. I think all the islands between T&T and Anguilla should be prepared for something, so everyone take care please.

Good Evening to you all,
It is a while since I have posted due to the fact I am 5000 miles away from Anguilla. I don’t have substantiated information but I understand there was enough wind and rain to cancel the air and sea ports yesterday, plenty of squalling showers over the last couple of days, but no injuries or disasters that I know of, I do however have verified information that the water temp  is 83F plenty warm enough to generate incentive to potential hurricanes. So please stay prepared.
On a completely different note, a few of you will know I lost with great sadness the little brown dog last autumn. I have now been finally brave enough to honour her by taking care of another small brown dog, please see pics, her name is Lili but is better known as ‘the devil in disguise’. She is 11 weeks old, full of character and I may say not all of it good. I am busy trying to train her to be able to deal with Eurostar, Air France and GBexpress ferries which she will have to deal with in a couple of months when I will return to Anguilla. Please wish me luck!
I wish you all a very good evening and hurricane free next couple of months.

For the first time in months Anguilla is raining.  So far the rain is light with some gusty winds from time to time.
We are seeing lighting and hearing thunder which many here have not heard in months.

Everyone is hoping for just enough rain across Anguilla.  We really need it here.

Good Evening to all readers of Stormcarib,
My kind neighbour  on the Searocks has been reading my rain gauge and we have had 3.85 inches since the beginning of May, very welcome to the cistern, pool and plants. I attach a pic of my Yucca in full bloom saying ‘wonderful rain’ I hope my Locus Tree has survived, there are no Locus trees in Anguilla and I found the seed of this one on Shoal Bay East (it looked like a brown leather purse) and amazingly it has grown. It has however been very hot and humid lately around 90F, I wonder what the sea temperature is?
I wish everyone a great weekend.
Kind regards,
