Just hearing that there has been an earthquake off Costa Rica and a tsunami
warning has been issued for the region and central and south America.
Considering the quake happened at around 8:40am I suspect the threat of a
tsunami has already passed.

The local radio, Z99 is advising that the Cayman Islands will be under a
tropical storm watch from 10pm tonight for the passing of Isaac.

Here in Prospect the winds are picking up and it has been becoming blustery.
The ocean is starting to get a chop on it. Hope this is a light one!

Hi Everyone

Please see below from http://www.caymanprepared.ky/:

Tropical Storm Watch for the Cayman Islands

Published 24th August 2012, 5:45pm
At 10pm tonight (Friday, 24 August) a tropical storm WATCH will go into effect for the Cayman Islands.
As Tropical Storm Isaac tracks northwest over Haiti and eastern Cuba, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman can expect 3-4” of rain between 7:00 a.m. Saturday and 7:00 a.m. Sunday.
Grand Cayman during the same time period will get approximately 0.5” of rain.
The National Hazard Management Executive met at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon and decided to issue the WATCH for the three islands.
Residents must be on the alert for rain, possible flooding in low lying areas, and gusty winds. Seas will be rough with wave heights of 4 to 6 feet and a small craft advisory is in effect.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, at 4 p.m. put Tropical Storm Isaac near 17.2 N. 71.9 W. or about 100 miles south southeast of Port au Prince, Haiti. Isaac is moving towards the northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Minimum central pressure is 994 MB. Storm force winds extend outwards up to 185 miles.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONTINUES TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC. ALL RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO STAY TUNED TO THE LOCAL MEDIA FOR THE LASTEST INFORMATION AND MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

This looks like it still could come to us!  Taking those dips south every night and then going west too gives us more chance of getting a vistior we do not want!
Get ready go to the supermarkets TODAY and get your supplies.......DON'T LEAVE IT TOO LATE...
Jamaica's government has issued warnings now too.

Gert ,

Terry Chesnard,   here  on Cayman Brac, been away for a while,
but  will be here when Isaac passes, and hopefully passes to our North as depicted.  It  is apparent that it may  be only a TS  which is very good.

Good Morning Everyone,

We are still having some rain fall. In my area, which is in the interior of the island, there was heavy rain on and off all night.
looking out to the east, the sun seems to be winning the battle for dominance right now. Only time will tell whether it will remain. Looking at the satellite maps, one would assume that more rain is in the works for today.

However, as I look westward towards the capital, the sky is dark and looks saturated with water.

Have a good day everyone!

Well, Tropical Storm Ernesto is reminding us here that he is out there off beyond the horizon.

At present, I am on my back porch listening to wind, which has picked up quite a bit and is now blowing around 20 to 25 mph with higher gust!!!

A slight drizzle at present, but the rumble of thunder can be heard off in the distance.

Will update if conditions change.

GOD BLESS!

Jason

Gert,

your summary is accurate. Ernesto wet enough to keep us inside
watching the empty lanes where our athletes are supposed to be, but
not much else.

We have been getting steady rain but other than that it has not been bad.  It’s been a bit windier than usual periodically since yesterday afternoon. Very uneventful for us on Grand Cayman.

Around 12.30pm the showers intensified near the airport and for a while vehicles had headlights on.   Now, at 4pm, there are dark clouds, rumbles of thunder, and light, continuous rainfall.

Well it looks like a normal day in the UK.  I see that Ernesto is now traveling WNW and will probably dump more rain on us for a bit longer due to the change in direction.  The garden is in need of the rain.  I am praying for those in the path of Ernesto as he is picking up speed and intensity.  Soon will be a hurricane!

Thankfully Ernesto bypassed us but we are now getting rain and its very dark
outside so lots more to come. Don't mind that - happy garden won't need
watering and the pool is still full!

Its been raining here in George Town for the last 40 or so minutes. A big dark cloud rolled in all of a sudden.  From my office window I could see people running for cover! :)

Sky is completely dark now with light rain.  Nothing major or to worry about.

This should my last Ernesto update unless something really interesting happens

Luckly we are spared this storm. Although the outer bands are effecting us now. We have a little wind and light rain and of course overcast. Don't know what we will expect as the day goes on. Our south and west coast waters will be rough and a small craft alert has been issued by the Cayman Island Government. Hope it stays weak for our neighbors to the west.

Well, it looks like Ernesto decided to take a southern route and will spare both Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.  I expect copious amounts of rain probably tonight and/or tomorrow and nothing much more.

Hopefully the system will say a TS and not inflict any major damage in Central America and the Yucatan.

Meanwhile, Florence in the Atlantic will not come anywhere near us. Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Hi everyone,

Its been a while.  We have had 3 complete summers without a single major storm. Nice.   However, we had better look out for Ernesto ; computer models show this system coming very close to us on Monday as potentially a Category 1 hurricane.  I hope my follow islanders will go to pickup some supplies on Saturday, just in case.

Cheers

It's "Discover Day" Holiday here in the Cayman Islands and it is Rain, Rain and more Rain.  Today is certainly a day for ducks.

The rain began at around 4:30am and except for some breaks with light drizzle, it has rained all day.  As I write a squall has dumped a further 1.5" bringing the total rainfall to 6.75" (my station) and it continues. In the storm this morning at 8:30, my station recorded a wind gust of 31mph.
Flooding is occurring in low lying areas, including my backyard.

Forecast is for continued showers through Wednesday.

Here is the reason for it: NHC report.

THE CARIBBEAN SEA...
BROAD CYCLONIC SURFACE FLOW COVERS THE NW CARIBBEAN AROUND A
SURFACE TROUGH PARALLELING THE YUCATAN PENINSULA ALONG 23N85W TO
15N88W. SCATTERED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS COVER THE AREA W OF 77W
WITH SOME OF THE STRONGEST ACTIVITY FROM 18N-21N BETWEEN 78W-83W
INCLUDING THE CAYMAN ISLANDS. THIS AREA OF MOISTURE IS EXPECTED
TO DRIFT TOWARDS THE NE...WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO BRING
SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS TO THE NW CARIBBEAN INCLUDING CUBA AND
JAMAICA
