Well Its been a while since i posted an update on stormcarib..so i said why now just do one now...its raining at the moment here in SVG it has been islandwide since the wee hours of the morning,i am at work at NBC Radio...doing the early shifts and i have received calls of rain all over the island...hopefully the Grenadines is getting some much needed showers to fill those cisterns up!

Judging from satellite photos this seem to be low level instability, since there is not much high level cold cloud tops showing up on satellite pictures, hence this is difficult to judge by just looking at imagery but from what i have heard from the Barbados Met Office we should be in for some showers throughout the rest of the weekend and into early next week...much welcomed rain i must say.

From all predictions so far it seems the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season is going to be quite active ...lets hope if they do form..they stay out to sea so we can just track then :-)..Take care all... i will have a next update next week...

Let’s hope we get more and if I hear any tourists complaining I might just give them a slap!!

Good day all

Happy to report that it is raining this morning, it has been a long time since our house was covered in fog, at our elevation it happens during rain and it was such a welcome sight. You can almost hear the earth sighing in relief, hope the water reservoirs fill back so we can get off this water rationing.

1.7 inches of rain in January and ZERO inches in February and ZERO so far this month are making for a dusty and dry island here in Mustique.

We are now offering to fill the guests baths with bottled water (still or sparkling – of course!)

Well its been a long time since i posted something on Stormcarib so i decided i will update you on conditions here in SVG, like our other neighboring islands we have been experiencing very dry dusty conditions with little to no rain, yesterday we had one shower.. brief one...that was it,other islands are now resorting to water restrictions but we are fortunate to not be there...yet...if it continues this way our main water sources may run so low that we may run into water shortages.

We hope that all fares well for the other islands through this very dry period and hope this is not a sign for an active hurricane season to come this year.Looking at satellite imagery now it is starting to clear up dust-wise in our region with the Saharan dust layer thinning out allowing a little moisture pocket here and there to sprinkle the islands,i hope this trend of thinning out continues to allow more moist air to filter in to cool us down and provide us with some much needed RAIN.

Thats about it for now...All the Best to all my Stormcarib friends and to all our avid readers around the world!

11 mm, less than half an inch of rain fell in December wrapped up the “Wet Season” (?). Mustique is dryer than I can remember in the fifteen years that I have lived here. The Desal plant is working overtime to supply water to the homes here for the busiest week of the year. Looks like we could be bathing in bottled water soon!

Well the “wet season” (how can we still call it that?) ended with the driest November ever here in Mustique….just 61 mm!! A total of 692 mm (27 inches) for the whole five months, about the same as the UK got in two days a short time ago!

Roll on the dry season perhaps we will get some rain then.

Hey all well as haniff said its lots of rain thunder and lightning as i type this message and just as he has had problems with his LIME internet, i have had as well..a while ago i heard a thunder louder than ever before it sounded like it hit the ground a couple metres from my yard that was scary, on another note an excavator apparently damaged a 12 main water line in the mountains that serves portions of the windward side of the island, CWSA says they should have it fixed by 11 PM but with this heavy thunderstorms around that's doubtful for completion tonight so we have to content with some good old rain for water for now...btw the rain poured continuously for over an hour providing us with a good stock up of water (thank god). Well i am off to check up on some things and watch a little lightning oh and some TV :-) take care all and if any new developments on "henri" i will post follow up

A large tropical wave near 9N 40W, midway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles Islands, is generating a considerable amount of heavy thunderstorm activity as it moves west to west-northwest at 15 mph. The wave is under about 10 - 15 knots of wind shear, with top winds of 25 mph. There is very little dry air in the vicinity, and conditions appear favorable for some slow development of this wave. None of the computer models develop the wave, but they do show relatively low wind shear along the wave's path for the next five days. The wave should reach the Lesser Antilles Islands by Wednesday.

As my fellow correspondent from Barbados has noted, today has begun with plenty
of water, especially in the south. When I was on the road earlier, I was forced
to drive at 20 kph because of limited visibility..Winds in the southeast have
increased as well - a welcomed change from the hot, humid conditions we endured
over the last couple of days..

A quick check of the satellite shows that we seem to be in the southern end of
Erika..something I didn't anticipate as all the models clearly showed this
storm well to our north..Oh well, these storms can be quite unpredictable and
this one is clearly defying all the models..

Well another month has gone by with nothing significant happening in this part of the Caribbean. Mustique had a low amount of rainfall for August with 137 mm (5.4 inches) – indeed not a drop for the last eight days although we might get a sprinkle today by the look of it. Good luck further north – keep your eye on 94.

An area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is
located over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean about 450 miles

- Tropical Storm Ana and Bill Update Sunday AM
 • From: "Colvin "Koolkidd" Harry" <colvinharry at yahoo.co.uk>
 • Date: Sun, 16 Aug 2009 03:25:53 -0700 (PDT)

Good day to all! I am back at work once again this morning very early..keeping a kean eye on whats brewing to the east of the island chain,as at 5 AM Ana is still on her westward motion..just slightly north of due west, tropical storm watches have been issued for a number of the northern islands and more islands can be added today..some may be upgraded to a storm warning within the next 12 hours as required so all interest in the Leewards should monitor this closely, last check of the closest point of approach on storm carib puts it 93 Miles away at closest point to st vincent and the grenadines , something tells me if this West Motion continues this will likely fall in the 70 mile radius range, which brings me to the point that tropical storm force winds extend outwards up to 70 miles so we should still keep a close eye on it in the windwards..one Soutward dip would bring it even closer.Forecasters expect it to turn WNW within the next 24-48 hours so we will have to go along with the professionals.

Now...Bill..Wheww large system showing some impressive banding very early this morning with first visible satellite imagery, strange enough at 5 AM this morning models starts to show a more imminent WNW motion quicker than expected because of an Upper Level Low just to the north and the fact that it is strenghtening and strengtening systems tend to pull more north ( not always as in big bad Ivan) , i am not a professional but i am finding it difficult to understand why Bill will make such a sudden WNW motion... i can agree with a gradual change but this will not be good if its a major hurricane since it will bring it dangerously close or through our islands, the models have it passing very close or just north of the northern most leewards,i have a strange gut feeling about this track being inaccurate..unless Bill begins its WNW motion very soon..for now its on a Westerly track...

All in all i urge all persons not to be complacent about their preparations and supply gathering.all the best to the friends in the northern leewards as this has a potential impact on them within the next few days..with Ana first then Bill.

Well...well..well quite an eventfull day i must say...the second named storm of the season formed in same 24 hour period and on the same track too...Tropical storm Bill decalared today at 5PM by the NHC is continuing its trend of intensification as i type this message and would not be surprised if it becomes a hurricane by 11PM sunday...most models have it as major hurricane passing just north of the islands...but Ivan thought us all a lesson and we should not be complacent..after all its moving West...its BELOW our latitude (most of us that is...) and there is no gurantee that it will recurve as they say..Ana was forcasted to start recurving but has not up to this point and looks very well on the way to the northern islands.I must note all inteeret in thee Leewards should monitor tropical storm ANA and all interests in leewards and windwards should monitor the progress of BILL.

I will continue to post on stormcarib as this feature and the one that follows continues on their Almost Due west course towards the islands.

I’d been getting complacent not bothering to check the weather links, but now it seems the rainy season has truly begun in earnest…yesterday was very still here in Bequia, not a breath of wind most of the day and the sea was flat as a pancake...the morning started off as one of those postcard perfect days, we kept seeing rain off to the east but it kept avoiding us and the sun shone much of the day with just a few light sprinkles…I figured it was the lull before a storm, came home and checked the internet to see what might be out there and yes, there it was, not one big blob just to the east of us, but a few more in line behind…went to bed figuring we’d have rain sometime thru the night, but was surprised by the light show…lots of lightning, and a good amount of rain as well…2 ½ inches in the rain gauge this morning...we’ve had a few sprinkles since mid day today and I can see more rain coming as I look out the window beyond my computer screen…I’d rather see Battowia and Balliceaux but will accept more rainfall…just keep that H word away…

Another very wet month here in Mustique with 175mm of rain (nearly 7 inches). I can’t remember two wetter months (June & July) in the fifteen years we have been here. Tanks full and everything bright green (including the tourists!). Hopefully we can get a little less rain this month as the island is full with tourists who will be looking forward to hanging on the beaches.

hope the skies clear up later today, as I do not see anything looming on the sat pics.... wishing everyone a safe weekend.

- Intense light show

Hey storm carib readers,

What a life eh? When the wind and the rain is so intense and you can't
sleep, the best thing to do is to write about it! Echoing Colvin's
comments, tonight is a magnificent show of lightning' rain and wind, I
took the precaution of unplugging my ADSL modem and resorted to
posting from my BB. Looking outside I can see the outline of the
mango and breadfruit trees swaying crazily in the wind. Although it is
around 12:30 here, there is enough residual moonlight to make out what
is happening around the house. There are gusts of around 20 Mph, and
judging from the satellite photos we have a few more hours of this
reminder that the "season" has started, it is a stark reminder to me
that there are a few things I need to have completed in order to be
fully ready for any system.

Hey All its Midnight here in SVG as we say hello to july and what a bang for the month for us here ...A few hours ago i watched an area of convection explode some miles of SVG's coast and i monitored it as it rolled it, its amazing what iam seeing looking out my window now, the rain is coming down in sheets and the wind very gusty and changing from E to ESE rapidly then to ENE as i watch the trees sway, i wish i had a wind guage at my location, there must have been a gust somewhere over 30 MPH as i saw the wires on the poles shaking and the banana trees bending over. The lightning has been intense over te past 30 minutes and the rain heavy and continuous, looks like we will have more of this for a little while as this Convective burst passes over.

I will update if anything further. All the best Stormcarib Readers!

The “wet season” finally arrived here in Mustique with 47 mm of rain yesterday. Enough to fill up a lot of empty tanks and green up the landscape.

as at 7 50 PM In the northern part of the island here we are having some serious thunderstorms with flashes of lightning every 5 seconds or so continuously over the past 30 mins.. its hard to keep up with the lightening strikes and the thunder is so continuous.

Local weather report said tonight will be cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms..but these dont look so much isolated to me lol.

Hope all stays safe... i will update if any further need arises.

Colvin

- Here we go....

Greetings to all stormcarib correspondents and readers...Well its June 1st the official start of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season, this year promises to be a bit quieter never the less it only takes one system to cause havoc in our small island states so we must all be prepared for whatever comes our way.

I woke up this morning to overcast conditions and distant roars of thunder, its gotten worst in the last hour with heavy downpours and closer rumbles of thunder, from the looks of the satellite imagery we will be in for some more of this weather for much of the day, this is due to a westerly moving tropical wave passing thru the windwards.

The forecast from the met office calls for party cloudy skies with showers, but i would more go for overcast skies due to the overnight convection that flared up east of the islands.I encourage all to keep visiting stormcarib.com for any important updates that myself or other correspondents may have.

I Have attached two photos i took a few minutes ago with my laptop webcam, they are not the best quality but you can see the rains sweeping accross the greenary.

Until Next update..stay safe and always be prepared!
