Greetings All,

Nevis has been blessed with over 7" of rain for the month of April. Certainly all cisterns are full & the drought is over.
We've had clouds, gray, murky weather for close to 10-12 days. Finally it looks like a day of sun & very few clouds & NO rain.

Thanks,

Harry

Rain so heavy you couldn't talk with out yelling to one another.
The worst has moved off the the east. Yes to the east???? Time to dry out & mop up.

Nevis still remains in the clouds with close to another 0.50 inches of rain since last report.
A light mist/rain falling now. Haven't looked at satellite images yet but it's OK - keep the rain coming!!!

Greetings,

Well after 3-36 days of no rain we finally get out lips wet. The weather station reports just over .4 inches.
Not enough to end the drought but certainly enough to dampen the ground, fill the cistern a bit & cool things down.
No one is complaining about the clouds yesterday & today. Still getting a shower now & then & the satellite images show we may be in that pattern till tommorow.

Ah ..... life is good. All it takes is a little rain!

Thanks,

Harry

Very very dry. Now one month with no rain for our normally very green island.
The pool water temperature is now 83 degrees which is unheard of for this time
of year. Normally its around 77. With sun filled skies & no clouds about its a
natural receipt for warm water. The down side - will have to use cistern water
to fill the pool a bit.

Greetings,

Day 20 and almost no rain here on the island. Things are browning up every where. Water trucks starting to make regular deliveries.
Checked my cistern yesterday & in good shape, within 10 inches from top. Good for 3-4 months of this but I hope it doesn't come to that.

Harry

Greetings All,

After a normal January, whatever "normal is" February is starting out as a very dry month with less than 0.4 inches of rain to date.
Things are still on the green side but the eastern end is starting to brown out. I see farmers gathering greens for their live stock, a sure sign things are dry.
We'll see how things look at end of month. Attached the 2010 weather data for those interested.

Thanks,

Was going to go sailing today with our other StormCarib correspondent, but the weather turned cloudy and cool, and a big northern swell came up. Nary a sail to be seen today! The ferries are hugging close to the narrows today to keep out of the bigger swells.....

Greetings,

During the early morning hours wind shifted out of the South & we've been dusted (again).
Seems to be a continuing saga this year. Don't remember when I've seen such light winds & from the S-SW.
Usually out of the N-NE this time of year.

Hello All,

A quiet hurricane season has ended. Winter visitors are returning. Skies are mixed with sun then showers then sun.
Been like this for several days now. Occasionally we get one of those perfect days, you know, all sun, comfortable humidity & temperatures in the low 80's.

Year to date weather data attached.

Not much to report in way of bad weather this hurricane season.
Doesn't feel like it's cooling down just yet, maybe another 2-3 weeks I'll feel the "winter" temperatures setting in.

Had to replace my weather station again (sigh) so have a new display for the extraction process.

Nevis now ...

Guess this Erika isn't playing by the rules or the computer models.
Been looking North now have to look South. At present it's sunny skies and 85 deg F outside.
Looks like Nevis is just on the very Northern edge of the storm. Might even slide by to the South???
Don't dare say what it's plans are. Good thing is not much for wind, bad thing is maybe lots of rain.
AT 1100 AM AST...1500 UTC...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ERIKA WAS
ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR LATITUDE 16.5 NORTH...LONGITUDE 60.4 WEST OR
ABOUT 100 MILES...165 KM...EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS.

ERIKA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 10 MPH...17 KM/HR. A WEST-
NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN LATER TODAY. ON THE
FORECAST TRACK...ERIKA WILL BE MOVING THROUGH THE LEEWARD ISLANDS
TONIGHT AND TOMORROW.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 40 MPH...
65 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST
TODAY WITH SOME SLIGHT RESTRENGTHENING POSSIBLE TOMORROW.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 105 MILES...165 KM
MAINLY TO THE EAST OF THE CENTER.

THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1008 MB...29.77 INCHES.

ERIKA IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4
INCHES OVER MUCH OF THE LESSER ANTILLES DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS...WITH ISOLATED MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 6 INCHES POSSIBLE. OVER
PUERTO RICO...3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT
FEW DAYS...WITH ISOLATED MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 8 INCHES.

Greetings,

It appears the Leewards will get something from this storm. Not rated yet as a tropical storm, no name assigned.
As the NHC is calling it " Showers & Boom Booms". That can change. With the speed at 15MPH it will brush us in 24-36 hrs.
I would stay alert to what is happening with this.
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 450 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES
CONTINUE TO SHOW SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION. CONDITIONS REMAIN SOMEWHAT
FAVORABLE FOR THIS SYSTEM TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING
THE NEXT DAY OR SO AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT AROUND 15 MPH.
THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE...GREATER THAN 50 PERCENT...OF TROPICAL
CYCLONE FORMATION IN THIS AREA DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. INTERESTS
IN THE LESSER ANTILLES SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

Greetings,

Based on 5 AM location ANA is (in a straight line plot) about 600 mi east of Martinique. Prediction is for storm to slowly track in a WNW direction.
According to NHC ANA will pass 40+ mi south of Nevis. No strengthening is predicted. Winds extend outward TO 70 mi from storm center. So we can expect to feel some wind blowing but nothing of damaging strength. I'd say Nevis is OK on this one.

Thanks,

Over 1.2 inches of rain, lots of thunder & lightening, Nevis Electric power out numerous times (not sure why). I think they turn it off for some strange reason.

Good Morning All,

Nevis remains in the cloudy, damp state. Since last report another 1 inch of rain has fallen. The satellite images show another blob of clouds moving over the Leewards. At the rate they are moving I'm hoping it will clear within 2-3 hours. Yesterday was one of those humid muggy days. St. Kitts, just 8 miles as the crow flies, was almost invisible through the hazy.
