Bonaire is abysmal. We are in the middle of a terrible no wind period. My siesta was 2 hours long. It is hot and humid and again, not a breathe of wind…Not sure why but it’s not pleasant…

It’s very calm in Bonaire. The winds have dropped and there has not been a drop of rain in quite sometime.  Driving thru town the restaurants were very quiet. The last of the cruise ships came yesterday dropping the masses at Sorobon. Bonaire is thinking of increasing cruise ship tourism. How has this industry helped or hindered your island? Comments are welcome.

Enjoy the week!

There is no wind, the skies are cloudy, the air is still, in fact it’s slightly oppressive. It feels like September. Tomorrow to commemorate the 20th anniversary of our local windsurf club, Aquaspeed, there is a race around the island with former Olympia, Patun Saragoza and Andy Brandt from ABK fame to name a few. They are rigging their 9.5 sails eeeeeeeeeeeeee…

Bon Dia,

It’s feeling like a Bermuda morning here, balmy, humid and a gentle breeze. The sky is quiet cloudy as a storm system is near us off VEN creating this weather funk. Great winds for the windsurfers lately and according to www.windguru.cz, it’s setting up to be a stellar week. Get out the Ibuprophen.

Cheers from the B in the ABC’s.

Not a lot of weather to report in Bonaire. Lots of good wind for our windsurfers, some rainy periods, and some amazing sunny days. Yesterday, there was NOT a cloud to be seen. Nice healthy trade winds made Lac Bay magical for the over 50 sailors on the water. Many are taking the ABK Windsurf Clinic and enjoying the breeze. Today I woke to a passing shower. The dogs are making foot prints all over my once clean patio.

It is running over the street near Harbour Village and all along the south the dive sites are flooded. What is the cause please? Are other islands experiencing this? On September 29, 2006, the U.S. Congress approved an amendment that would delay implementation of new passport requirements included in the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, a law requiring U.S. travelers to have passports in order to re-enter the U.S from anywhere abroad, including Bonaire.

Although the last-minute revision which was inserted into a Homeland Security Dept. appropriations bill delays implementation until June 1, 2009, this revision only applies to requirement for passports for land crossings at the Canadian and Mexican borders and for cruise passengers returning to the U.S. from Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada or Bermuda through the same date. However, all U.S. citizens will require passports for travel by air starting Jan. 8, 2007, as previously proposed.

Our island has not seen rain in a long time. The limbi limbi gnats are out in full force up our noises, in our eyes and driving us bonkers. Winds are light. The full moon was lovely. Today was a nice sunset. Lots of plane mechanical woes as to be expected when Mercury is Retrograde. The Queen arrives tomorrow. What fun…

The plants and donkeys are happy. My neighbor’s doggies tied to trees 24.7 with no proper shelter are not..sigh…

Flew to Puerto Rico for a long weekend. Arrival was delayed as the runway had iguanas that needed to be chased off before we landed..it had rained. Apparently the breeding grounds and areas for them to live are greatly limited so the runway is a fav iguana hang out?? Loved my two nights in El Yunque. Cool nights and humid balmy days hiking and swimming. Arrival into Old San Juan was to scorching heat and humidity. Heading back to Bonaire tomorrow..what weather awaits?

Weather forecast for the ABC Islands valid until Wednesday midday 12:00 AST.

Weather:
Today: Generally partly cloudy and mainly dry.
Tonight through Wednesday midday: Partly cloudy, occasionally mostly cloudy with an isolated shower.

Winds:

Today through Wednesday midday: Easterly and gentle to fresh; force 3 to 5 (13 to 39 km/hr, 7 to 21 knots). Mainly during daytime, occasionally strong to near gale force and possibly to gale force in gusts; force 6 to 8 (40 to 74 km/hr, 22 to 40 knots).

Synopsis:
A tropical wave moved West away from our islands during the early morning and caused some shower activity. During this forecast period the presence of moisture and a weak upper level disturbance will induce some clouds development over our islands from time to time. Especially tonight and tomorrow morning some of these clouds will cause a local shower. A area of Saraha dust will reduce the visibility during the next 24 hours.

Sea Conditions: Wave heights will be rough between 1.5 and 3.0 meters (4 to 10 feet). Marine interests are strongly advised to take this into account and not to venture far from shore.

Forecaster: Abraham.

The next weather forecast  will be issued Tuesday at 16:00 AST (20:00 UTC).

Last updated: Tuesday, July 11, 2006, 10:00 AST (14:00 UTC).

I cannot remember a season so windy here in Bonaire. May it started and it's still howling. I predict using a 4.2 meter sail and to be well overpowered today for my much deserved windsurf session. We have a kids clinic coming up at Bonaire Windsurf Place, there is an ABK Clinic at Jibe City and Diva Women's Week starts Sat. so it's perfect timing. The Bonaire Team is training hard for Pro Kids, the biggest freestyle event yet held Aug. 3-6. If you have not see the Bonaire Sailing Team perform freestyle, well you need to..their talent is staggering.

We have had a few sprinkles of rain but nothing measurable.

According to www.windguru.cz we are to expect some crazy winds tonight into the weekend. I wish I had my 3.5 meter sail. It's been cranking all day but I can tell tomorrow is the day for some crazy wind. We have had no rain at all...not a drop. Wish some would come our way. Instead I power walked 12K again and then swam at Ole Blue and took a "bath" at Dos Pos under the watchful eyes of some donkeys. We head to Capt. Don's for 10 PM 4th of July fireworks.

We have had some howling winds, rain squalls and dark skies for a few days. The windsurfers are delighted. I wish the rains to our south came up more so we could have a welcome relief from the seasonal dry spell. The squalls are not enough to satisfy the thirst of the gardens. I was on my 4.7 meter windsurf sail and 87 liter board for three days now. Need a break..haa.

Since living and traveling here oh back to 2001, I have NEVER heard such a storm. Around 2 AM I woke to torrential downpours, loud thunder and amazing lightning. It lasted for what seemed hours. The dogs, not accustomed to such noise were trembling. Today the sun is shining, the breezes are light and huge puddles are all that remain. I am grateful for a refreshing dose of water.

I am in Bermuda on holiday to celebrate my cousin's victory sailing his 40 ft Pacific Sea Craft, Anoush from Exumas to Bermuda single handed. The weather is breezy and warm with a slight bit of humidity. I would say the water temp. at Ft. St. Catherines was about 68..brrrrrrr..compared to Bonaire's 80.....We are at a little B and B nestled in between charming homes in cozy and most historic St. Georges. Heading back to Bonaire soon.
