- Ivan's long reach

The thoughts and prayers of the people of Belize are with everyone who is in the path of Ivan and who has been affected by it to date.   Even here on Ambergris Caye we feel the presence of Ivan.   Last night the winds shifted - they are now very cool and coming in from the north-west.  Usually when winds come from that direction the seas are pushed out beyond the reef, giving us quite low water levels.  Today is different.   This morning the sea is about a foot higher than normal and waters inside the reef are sporting rolling surf.   Ambergris Caye is not in Ivan's danger zone, but what we see and feel here today is an impressive reminder of the power of this storm.

Had a little bit of rain here on the island on Saturday night with quite a lot of lightning and overcast day yesterday but nothing like they experienced north of us in Cozumel. Weather has cleared up today with a bright sunny day and a nice steady 15 -18kn breeze.
Perfect kiting, windsurfing or sailing weather.
