Yippeee..we just had a dose of rain here in arid Bonaire. Being a former New Englander I am thrilled with the weather change. Winds are very light and according to the forecast it will continue in this pattern.

Hope all are well today, Wed. in the Caribbean.

- Winds are back!

After a wind free month the winds are back with some gusts to 26 knot  and higher. I have sailed a 4.0 and 4.7 meter sail for days and cannot complain. It is wonderful to feel the breeze again. No rain but dark clouds and a rather eerie feeling.

Off to finish work  and run errands so I can sail until dark.

Hey everyone!

Winds are back here in Bonaire but it's very humid. We had a good dose of rain early Tue. morning and it's unusually sticky.

Off to windsurf hopefully on my 4.7 meter sail.

We are experiencing gray skies and intermittent rain here in Bonaire. The
winds are returning which makes the windsurf guests happy.

It's lovely for work and errands but not nice for our divers..how are the
rest of the islands?

We are in the doldrums down here in Bonaire. No wind for a few days. Also
last week we had unusually low water levels in Lac Bay.

I hope for wind soon for all the tourists who pay big money to windsurf
here and for us locals who need a good sesh.

Any wind elsewhere??

- Is there wind ANYWHERE in the Caribbean
  • From: "Ann Phelan" <ann AT bonairewindsurfing.com>

We have had a wind drought here on Bonaire and SO MUCH rain. This island which gets oh about 22" a year has had about 10" since Oct. already. The squitos are fierce as a result.

So where is the wind?  Don't get me wrong, I MUCH prefer this to the cold my friends are enduring in the Northeast.

Peace

- Light winds again

We are still in a light wind spell here in Bonaire. The rains are daily
sometimes for a moment and sometimes downpoars. As a result the 'squitos
are fierce. I went out and bought some coils last night as I abhour the
smell of the sprays. All is green and the donkeys are getting nice drinks
of rain water. Fortunately the rains are often in the early AM so our
tourists are still enjoying the lovely island.

Winds are back in Bonaire. I sailed a 3.7 meter sail and for those who do
not windsurf, that's a smalllll sail. We had MUCH rain New Years Eve and
last night. It's good for me but the tourists are too happy. Luckily most
of the rain is at night.

Peace and Happy New Year

Here we are in windless Bonaire. Not typical and NOT good for us
windsurfers. Anyone care to suggest where the winds are?? What's up with
the weather?? Well, it's PERFECT for divers!

Well, I had a lovely day of snorkeling and now am online getting some work
done.

Peace for the New Year

- Wind in Bonaire

WOWSA..wicked winds here in Bonaire. Yesterday I sailed (windsurfed) on a
4.5 meter sail with an 85 liter board. SMALL stuff so good news. It's
cloudy today..VERY cloudy indeed with more wind. I wonder if that third
storm up in Irieland is impacting us? Any predictions?

Do not miss the snow of my home Cape Cod.. prefer the balmy winds here in
the Dutch Caribbean.

Peace to all

The sky opened up this morning sending down a good amount of rain. This
typically dry island has had such a wet Dec. Coming from New England I enjoy
it. The wild donkeys get water to drink, the island is green and it's nice for
sleeping.

The winds have backed off considerably but I am still managing to get in
somewindsurfing. The 4.7 meter sail was a tad too small yesterday but it was a
lovely day. The tides are very high and life is good here on Bonaire.

It's raining it's pouring. Bonaire has had torrential rain for 24 hours. Some
say this is the most rain Bonaire has seen in 7 years. The entire island has
flooded areas where the dry parched soil has not absorbed the water. The 400
wild island donkeys are standing in groups bracing against the rain.

While driving south to the windsurfing site, Sorobon I hit a puddle so deep the
water filled into my Toyota Starlet. YIKES!

Meanwhile I am here putting on a huge windsurfing event so please Mother
Nature, enough is enough.

I have heard mixed reports on what's up in Bermuda. Now, there are reports the airport is operational and flights will resume soon. Also the Royal Gazette reports the Causeway opens at 6 PM.

I hope someone posts soon.

I hope we hear from Bermuda soon. It sounds horrific. The causeway to the
airport is down and news reports say several weeks to repair (USA/MSN/CNN).
The runway is ok but the airport terminal is ruined. All X Ray machines,
ticketing equipment and res desks are totally ruined. Reports of 4 feet of
water inside the terminal.

No news on hotels. Anyone else hear anything?? Things sound grim. 4
confirmed dead from a causeway accident.

Prayers for our friends in BDA.

Just took this off rec. Caribbean

Bermuda - recent report
Author: Ian Walker
Date: 09-05-03 15:22

"Just talked (incredibly) with a friend of my in Bermuda who is situated on
the South Shore of Bermuda whilst I am sitting in sunny Baltimore, Maryland.
I managed to hear the latest news update from the Bermuda Emergency
Broadcasting Station. The latest sustained wind speeds are 126 mph at Harbor
Radio and 70-80 mph at the airport.
The eye is reported to be heading for the West End of the island and may
give them a brief respite from the weather.
Waves on the South Shore are reported to be in the 40 foot range.
There are numerous boats free in the harbor.
There is unfortunately a report of two cars being stuck on the middle of the
Causeway and rescue workers are trying to get to them.
There are widespread reports of roofs (or parts of them) coming free.
The latest weather broadcast suggest sustained winds will be with Bermuda
for only 7 hours and not the 10-17 hours that was originally thought."

Good Luck Bermuda..please post when you can...
