- IS IT HURRICANE SEASON ALREADY???

Wild night in Anguilla last night - weather wise!  At 2:00 AM, had a wicked, slow moving thunder storm come thru, with a great light show of lightening, and a wind gust of 45 knots (53 mph) at 2:06 AM.  But, alas, here on the West End we had 6 (or maybe it was 7) drops of rain.  Could not believe it!  I understand there was a lot more rain on the East End, but the worst of it seemed to be to the North.  This morning, there were lots of tents blown down on the way to the Valley, but not much other damage.  Between Thursday night and Saturday morning, we had a total of 1.4 inches of rain here on the West End, but I was told at Blowing Point/The Valley there was 3.5 inches, and even more on the East End

- WEATHER UPDATE

New Years day was a cloudy, rainy, windy day here in Anguilla.  We had 0.7 inches of much needed rain, and at 2:00 yesterday had a wind gust of 34 knots (39.1 mph).  It was also quite cool, with a low in the late afternoon of just over 71.  One of the coolest temps. I have seen here.  Finally, the waves on the north side continue to be large as a result of a gale in the north Atlantic.  For live pics of the surf at Shoal Bay, as well as the breakers on the reef, check out live pictures at the "Local Cam" on http://www.iloveaxa.com/indexb.htm

Happy New Year to all,

Hazy sunshine here this AM, but looks like rain moving in from the southeast.  Had 0.45 in. rain in last 24 hours.  Winds currently 18 - 22 kn., gust to 26 kn.  satellite image shows lot of rain headed this way from the southeast.  We'll see if it holds together.

Here in Anguilla, we have finally started to get some of the outflow from Lili, but not much.  Was beautiful this morning, clouding up this afternoon.  Had a gust of 36 knots at 2:30 PM, and 3 rain squalls have moved through, but that's it.  Not much rain - of course.  So far only had 0.35 in. here in the west end.  The satellite picture is much more impressive that what is actually happening.  The cistern just keeps going lower and lower.  Haven't had more than 0.3 inches in a 24 hour period since last December.  Oh well, it's better than a hurricane.

- TD#10 - A FLOP IN ANGUILLA!!!

The northern fringes of TD#10 came roaring through Anguilla last night.  We had some vivid lightening and thunder, very windy all night long (gust of 32 knots - 37 mph), and - NO RAIN!!!  Unbelievable!!!  I figured this was good for a couple of inches, and we had a whopping 0.14 inches - most of it in a 5 minute downpour.  The cistern is now way less than 1/2 full, and this is the rainy season.  Guess the water delivery companies are lovin' life!

- SO WHERE'S THE RAIN???

For the last 36 hours, we have had a tropical wave move (or is moving??) through the area.  Yesterday, we had periods of thunder and lightening, thick, heavy storm clouds, and wind gusts of 30+ knots - AND ALMOST NO RAIN HERE IN THE WEST END!  UNBELIEVABLE!!!  For the entire 36 hour period, we got a whopping 0.3 inch of rain.  I was in the Valley in the morning (center of the island), and there were torrential rains - so hard, driving was difficult.  I have heard reports of some slight flooding in the East End.  But nothing to speak of hear.  Got a lousy 1.5 inches added to my cistern.  Right now, there is rain moving down the Anguilla/St. Martin channel - but not here.  Maybe Dolly will be nice enough to go north of us but give us a few hours of rain.  Other than that, hotels/restaurants are busy closing down for the season.  By next week, we'll have all the beaches to ourselves until November.

- RAIN??? WHAT'S THAT???

Been looking at all this discussion about rain, but here in Anguilla, we've forgotten what rain looks like.  About 10 - 11 days ago, we had 0.1 inch in a quick storm - and that's been it for as far back as I can remember.  About 5 - 6 weeks ago, we got about 0.2 in the night, but nothing else.  My cistern is at the lowest point ever - about 55% full.  Maybe today, but the satellite picture doesn't look good.
